pranil: Thanks Pranil. I agree that it will be easier to maintain. My question is regarding battery longevity. In a battery bank I assume that all batteries will be used at least 80% of the time, while for separate units some may not be used at all for a while? So if in the bank setup ALL batteries in the bank are cycled often, will they last as long as separate installs where some are used often while some are not? |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by NiyiOmoIyunade(m): 2:23pm On Feb 28, 2019 |
TLDR; The batteries will underperform, achieve or surpass their rated cycle life based on a large number of variables. It is not just how many cycles a battery does that matters but a host of parameters around how those cycles were done that will determine service life. The key point to bear in mind is the significant upfront cost savings (at least 50% savings) if you choose a centralized system with one inverter and centralized battery bank vs. a distributed system having dedicated inverter and batteries per dwelling unit especially as you can expect ~50% occupancy on the average. Within a standard operating range, you will achieve significant economies of scale in equipment costs for the centralized system Designing and deploying bespoke systems such as these is our specialty at Luminant Tech Systems - you can reach out to us (sales@luminanttechsystems.com) and we will work with you to deploy an effective system. Now the long answer; Loading and Cycle Life; If a battery was rated 1,750 cycles at 30% DoD for example. There is typically an implicit assumption that the loading is at or near C20. If you were to always overload the battery e.g load it C8 while still not exceeding 30% DoD, you can bet that battery will not make its rated 1,750 cycles. Temperature And Service Life; Batteries are generally speced at 25°C - higher temperatures generally give shorter service life and vice versa. If you add on the complication of whether or not your charge source can perform temperature compensated charging, you can expect your service life to vary significantly. Sulfation And Deficit Charging; A battery needs to get a regular full charge; passing through [Bulk -> Absorb -> Float on a regular basis. Undercharging will lead to sulfation and progressive loss of capacity. These and many other variables will determine the service life your batteries will give when they are placed in service. mktinsight: |

Namzy: Equalisation can only be enabled through the victron connect software for victron charge controllers. The particular brand of fangpuson u are using is a clone of the victron mppt bluesolar controllers. Since late 2016, victron have made it difficult to use their official victron connect software with the fangpusun clones.. Often times they inject a silent kill switch to the fangpunsun which gradually kill the controller. This happens when you try to connect the fangpusun with a victron connect software (least from november 2016).. It was because of this issue that fangpunsun starting making a "*new*" bluesolar with a new casing that comes without the victron connect port hence making it impossible for users of their product to mess with victron software and end up causing damage. Your options are in 2 folds. 1 find online an older version of the victron connect app (I am using version 1.7) and that seem to work without issues. Once you get this you ccan connect it to the fanpusun cc with the ve usb port. The newer models without the port on the surface can still be used but it would need to be opened up. The best and easiest option 2 is to just manually increase your absorption charge voltage to 15.5 per 12v and ensure you maintain this for close to 2 hours. This is pretty much what absorption charge does anyway. The downside is you lose automatic equalization which is suppose to happen once every 30 month at least. But trust me, you always want to be there when equalizing batteries just to keep an eye on things so option 2 might not be as bad as it sounds. 2 Likes |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Braaad: 1:17pm On Mar 02, 2019 |
ojeysky: Duty fee for your inverter should be around 12k to 22k depending. I had a similar experience with DHL on an inverter. I ended up paying 22k cos I was in a hurry. I was told I could have paid less if I didn't opt for express.... That was 4years ago. |

ojeysky: OgogoroFreak: ojeysky: Braaad: Oshomo12: Earthrealmlord: I paid 11k as Customs duty, ojeysky. This is how it went down: I got a call from FedEx that Customs had determined that the PIP was a dutiable item and to supply them by mail with my Import Tax # (or something to that effect) or get one from the Customs website, otherwise they (FedEx) would apply their own applicable tax regime to get the PIP cleared before it would start attracting demurrage. I couldn't figure anything out from the referenced Customs page so responded accordingly and specifically requested FedEx to apply their best practices. The result was the 11K assessment and payment into the nominated FedEx account. The PIP was released and delivered the following day. IIRC, some previously tax-free RE equipment were re-categorized into tax brackets sometime towards the end of 2018, effective this year. I think I saw some sort of debate on some forums on that policy. So I wasn't that surprised with the duty slap. It won't be a surprise either if all courier service providers are now being made to comply. Just advise FedEx like I did or some similar way, ojeysky, and you should be home and dry. ........ My setups have all served well as you noted. But I can't shake off the feeling that things can get interestingly better by going MPPT. More so that plans to harness solar for water heating (panels + water heater with a DC element swapped in for the stock AC element), the gate opener and electric fence as well are in the pipeline. These are setups I know will require MPPT in as their components. I think a little personal DIY experience with MPPT use will not be a bad idea. arc welder download |
