olopan:Well the roofing is not in my hands as it's a mini estate where we just buy. Attached is plan and 3D. The second one is mine. They are still at DPC and project should be ready to deliver by March/April next year so I'm trying to plan ahead. Is it possible to deduce how much Panels each tenant's roof can take from the attached plan/3D? Im interested in knowing. It's a flat hidden roof so i think that's good right? For Load my rough Guess will be 2-3 Interver AC(1.5hp) 2-3 TV 3 standing FANs 1 Water Heater All lightings 1 Fridge 1 Freezer. My plan is to use appliances that are as low energy consuming as possible and this will be factored in as we do any purchase. So with all these, do you think a 15KWh - 20KWh LiFePO4 would go a long way? And how much should I budget for? I'd personally like to buy most of the things myself to save cost. I am already in talks with Felicity and BSLBATT. The former is cheaper but I'm concerned about quality as I'm getting divergent views.

You can make this simple , with a 15KWH if you use 1Kiliwatts per hour , that means you will get 15 hours of electricity out of it . For inverter aircon, they consume on average 500 watts per hour, If you run the 3 aircon , that will be 3 times 500 watts = 1500 watts per hour, soon a 15 kwh battery , you will get 10 hours of electricity. If your fridge and freezer are inverter as well then you will use very minimal wattage about 130 watts for the 2. I would advice to get a solar water heater sethtsadopp: |

sethtsadopp: SINCE YOU PLAN TO BUY most items yourself, why not consider buying the lifepo4 cells from china and have someone build the pack for you for a small fee................or you buy the ready built packs by the guy in jos, his 48v 300ah pack was 1.5m last time i asked. but buying the cells from china, you would spend about 90 to 130 usd per cell, ie 3.2v 280ah eve ,catl or rept cell, freight inclusive, so a 560ah 48v cell, made up of 32 pieces would gulp about 4k usd or less, which is real value for money. 29kwh!. we wrapped up a group buy of almost 150 cells in april, and they are already enroute nigeria..hopefully july will make landfall in naija, you and likeminded souls could organize a similar group buy to save more cost..................forget about buying panels from china, its not worth it 4 Likes |

NiyiOmoIyunade: Hi there. This Solar Water Heaters, how efficient/effective are they? How does it work, Is it direct sunlight that heats the water or there is some kind of electronic heating? What is the average temperature of hot water you get? Near boiling possible? Can you get hot water even at night? Lastly what is the cost of the one you use? |

All4good:I agree on using low power appliances. However the quoted portion is inaccurate. 150W x4 panels cannot replenish a 500AH battery even for a 12V setup. Panels: 150W * 4 is 600W Battery: 500AH * 12 is 6000Whr It will take 10hrs of 100% solar conversion to refill it. For higher voltage setup, it will take even longer. 4 Likes |

olopan: Thanks very much for your reply. I will reach out to you for further discussion (I am in Abuja though). By the way BSLBATT said they can give me the 20KWh (10KWh x 2 - in parallel) for about $3800. Fair price I think...? I don't think importing panels is worth it though, i have not done my calculations on that well. You mentioned JA.. they good? What do you think about the suggestion someone made on buying cells to assemble. I am particular about the high quality of the entire setup that's why I am skeptical about that. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by GeorgeD1(m): 3:53pm On Jun 06, 2021 |
toluxa1: solar water heaters are majorly of two types: the evacuated tube types and flat plate types. evacuated tubes are more efficient compared to the flat plate types because they are in direct contact with the water. yes, direct sunlight heats the water and no form of electronic heating whatsoever is involved. (although in a few cases like mine, there is provision for an electric heating coil which you can use to assist in maintaining water temperature on cold days when the sun output is not that strong) average temperature can range from anywhere around 50 degrees celcius up to 80 degrees c depending on your setting and also the weather condition. you can get hot water all through the day, even at night as the hot water tank serves as a reservoir, keeping the water hot when the sun goes down. as for cost, it varies with brand and capacity. but anything between 150k to 650k will do the trick. it all depends on your pocket. 1 Like |

The price is fair, for some telecom battery in cabinet this was their quote, but yours I guess is wall mount/power wall Getting panels locally is quite better, with warranty and any other unseen failure if any JA panels are Good, new to the market but giving the good names a run, so I'd bet on it. I believe the advise of DIY build is a good one, many users here run their system on them 1. The battery is direct from suppliers 2. You can add on it the BMS you like for your max. Power demand 3. You get to shave off extra cash and add to other items Lastly! since you are skeptic, do your research properly, as there are many contributions already ... The time of install is still months away. Take your time and plan carefully. sethtsadopp: 1 Like

All4good: LOLZ @ gf the cells usually come in 3.2v 40ah to 500ah, with 280ah being the favourite, for a 24v system, its just a simple matter of rearranging the cells into 4 sets of 8 cells, [8s4p] total of 32 pieces to give you same 29kwh. you can also do a single string of 8cells in series for a 7kwh bank |
