The Senate needs to be strengthened to combat the executive overreach. Recently the confrontation over Ibrahim Magu's appointment came up since the executive refuses to submit annother name for EFCC chairman after prior rejections. If executive can just make a rejected candidate an acting chairman with no recourse of being taken out of his seat then the senate powers are made null. The executive wins no matter what since any office can just be staffed with Acting who ever.

The solution the senate can do is give it's self the power to impeach any high official without prior request. The process can remain the same as President and Vice. They can also add section that states presidents can't fill acting seats with rejected person. Then annother giving acting person less protections from impeachment It's doubtful NASS reads nairaland so they continue their games.

Reason to give public other than fear of Magu or love of looting:

● If you can impeach the head of state then Chairmans, secretaries and departments should be fair game.

●This issue is a checks and balances issue. If NASS wants to reign in an unruly or unsatisfactory chairman that has full support of President they need to amend constitution.

● This power won't be abused since it long process and won't change the dynamic much. Party loyalty makes it hard to impeach anybody without sufficient justification. Its more likely the president removes you than NASS any day of week.

This is not like amending the EFCC act, this is a constitutional amendment. They cant do it alone, they need the reps and every state in the country

It is easier to impeach the president than a constitutional amendment

The free advice is still on table. They won't call to impeach Buhari over Maina reinstatement but don't have the power to get rid if executive appointees. The Senate should consider this item in their constitutional amendments since they plan on padding many.

Look at them begging Buhari to fire the frauds in his cabinet. If this was USA they would have power to impeach them if they felt so strongly as a collective with 2/3 majority.
