Do We Really Have Talent In The Nigerian Premier League? by Tunde023(m): 8:52am On Jul 07, 2017
I’m pretty sure hundred and thousands of Nigerians reading this article will be very much shocked and perturbed to understand the reason behind such statement. However, with the pathetic state and the performances the Nigerian club are displaying in Africa with reference to the CAF champions league it is a note of worry to us Nigerians and the Nigerian Premier League at large

It deserves to be observed that Enugu Rangers(The Champions of the League), Rivers United, Wikki Tourist, Ifeanyi Uba all represented us in the Continent and behold, they all wobble and fumble with only Rivers United been able to qualify for the confederation cup which is the 2nd tier of African Club competition. However the question goes as thus, why are Nigerian clubs doing badly in the continent? Well, it’s quite simple we don’t have enough talent in the league that we believe we have
Interestingly, people will definitely not agree with me but the truth of the matter is we don’t have talent in the league what we have are all bunch of average players plying their trade in the league no wonder Gernot Rohr have no trust in the local players reason why he is travelling around Europe in search of Nigerians players in Europe to help him prosecute games for Russia 2018.

For Nigeria football to lay an indelible footprint locally and internationally, we need to metamorphose and transform our league. We need to have a resounding academy where the young ones will be able graduate from the academies of these clubs to the senior team. It is astonishing to know our football clubs don’t have academies. Besides, Spain Germany have taught us a good lesson when they won 2010 and 2014 world cup with 80 percent of players playing in their respectively leagues. Hence, for us to make any impact in the global stage our league needs to be in good shape so players can be able to represent the National team

In the final analysis, we say our league is one of the best in Africa in terms of talent but only Enyimba FC have been able to conquer the Africa Continent twice while winning it back to back beating Ismaily and Etoile du Sahel in the final. Also, the AFCON tournament competition for locally based players still the best we had was finishing third led by the late Stephen Keshi. Thus, so why do us Nigerians like deceive ourselves.

I guess the notion that the Nigerian Premier League is the best in Africa is just an Over statement.

Your opinion is highly welcome

I think the problem with Nigeria league is enormous, and the notion that we have the best league in africa has been long dropped. Nigeria league is among the worst football league in the world where there are no developmental arrangement for up coming and young talents, where we don't have age group category in our system, how do we develop the very young talents. furthermore, there is no where in the world where the clubs are being sponsored by the government, this has really affected our league ,individuals and private setups are meant to take over the league but due to the unpopularity associated with the league to body will want to invest in the league.the referees are also killing the league due to their corrupt practices and lastly the rate at which our players goes out to lesser leagues like the Malta, Bahrain and some stupid leagues around the world has taken shine off our league.

From what i have seen & observed so far we have unbelieved talants not just in the NPL, but also on the streets & football academy. What we lack is good management & leadership...

What do you expect when there's extremely poor funding and management of teams? It wasn't until this year the winners price was increased to 25m. Convert it, that'd give you about £61k pounds, that's about what Victor Moses pockets weekly tax included . But you'll see our shameless government officials running to European countries to see games. Also when there's corruption and their heads has been filled with only the idea of match fixing.

Imagine in a league where it's hard to win an away game. The much you can do is draw. don't it look fishy? It's only in Nigerian league the bottom team would comfortably beat a top placed one.

Yes, we have a whole lot of them, while millions of them are also wasting away. We've lost loads of them to suicide, mental illness, drugs and violent attacks too. sad
