Research citation has been a difficult challenge encountered by researchers especially when they are rounding up the research project documentation. Microsoft office word has made it easy for you to automatically insert references along the way while you are compiling your paper work.



In this tutorial guide, I will be using Microsoft office word with version higher than 2010.

Step 1

Go to REFERENCES on menu bar.



Step 2

Type your statement or quote

The Duvernay Formation is a relatively heterogeneous system, comprising limestones, mudstones and calcareous mudstones


Step 3

To create a citation, go to MANAGE SOURCES under the REFERENCES menu bar. A new window will pop up as shown below.



Step 4

Click on the NEW button as highlighted in YELLOW above.

The source of my quote in STEP 2 is Stoakes and Creaney, 1984. When the new window pops up, I will insert all the bibliography of the author and click Ok and Close.

Step 5

Add the reference to your quote by going to REFERENCES – Insert Citation – and select your citation. Your citation will automatically appear in front of your quote.



Step 6

To recall your citations at the end of your write ups under the References Chapter

Go to Bibliography under REFERENCES menu bar and select References to list out all the Citations in your research article, which will be displayed as shown below.
