The flooding shown here has nothing to do with canals. The rains are excessive and have caused the River Niger to overflow its banks trapping poor people in the flood plain. Perhaps the dams are being emptied upstream too

Though, God may be angry with Nigerians but he has vowed not to destroy us with flood again, our carelessness and the poor maintenance culture we have in this country is what is causing all these. So many Nigerians are fond of blocking drainages with refuse!

Buildings along flood plain will definitely be affected. We are stubborn in this country, nobody is ready to live by rules (setback from flood plain 30 - 50metres). I hope we learn from this experience. RIP

This is scary. Apart from the dead, septic tanks and pit toilets will be submerged and forced to churn out their waste.Boreholes will turn to drainage holes. Epidemic things.
