![]() ![]() Many folks know Chief Kayode Aderinokun the Lukotun Aje of Owu, as an accomplished writer, and former Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Authors. But not many people realise that he has his hands deep, in several corporate ventures. Today, he owns extensive interests in a gold mine. As one of the directors of Thor Exploration, Aderinokun has had over thirty-five years of accomplished business experience within Nigeria, before setting up the company. He currently serves as Chairman of First Marina Trust Limited, a leading financial services institution in Nigeria. He has led a number of initiatives, including the first commercial exploration program of the Segilola Gold Project. Aderinokun is also the founder & shareholder of Tropical Mines Limited and Segilola Resources Operating Limited. He brings invaluable in-country expertise to the board of Thor, through his significant experience gained in the mining and financial services sectors. Nigeria's vast reserves of solid minerals including base metals, coal, gemstones, iron ore and industrial metals is still yet to be fully tapped. But Aderinokun's company Thor Exploration Limited, is out to take advantage of this fact, by drilling for solid minerals to boost not just its own wallet, but the economy of the nation. Thor Exploration Limited, is a mining company, with a focus on gold exploration projects, located in highly prospective, under-explored regions of West Africa. It was incorporated in Canada, to engage in the acquisition, exploration and development of mineral properties located in Nigeria, Senegal and Burkina Faso. ![]() The company has been granted a mining license that covers 17.2km2, as well as an exploration license over 27.0km2 of mineral deposits, which allows it to carry out mining and exploration activities over a huge stretch of land. In their quest for solid minerals, they literally struck a goldmine, as they discovered extensive gold minerals, as well quartzite and quartz-mica schist to the east, of their exploration field, and gneissic rocks to the west. ![]() The entire area was therefore renamed - the Segilola Gold field. It is located in Ilesha, and the mineral belt is said to extend for over 400 kilometres. The company is determined to conduct further prospecting activities, in order to unearth the vast riches beneath the Ilesha soil. Thor’s Flagship Project which is the Segilola Gold Project, was acquired by the company in August 2016. It is considered Nigeria’s most advanced gold project, with an indicated resource of 555,000 ounces grading at 3.8g/t. On the board of Thor Exploration, is the dynamic Olusegun Lawson, the company's Managing Director and CEO, who has led all of Thor’s acquisitions and financings, including its' most recent one - the acquisition of the Segilola Gold Project and Thor’s JV with Acacia Mining. Segun Lawson has a Bachelor of Science degree from the Royal School of Mines at Imperial College (UK) with Honours in Geology, as well as an MBA from Cass Business School. He has had extensive transaction experience in oil and gas corporate financing, and also gained experience at Premier Oil, in spotting and negotiating new West African opportunities. Lawson is currently a director of Argento Exploration (UK) Limited, as well as a co-founder of African Star Resources, which was sold a few years back, for over $3.5 million USD. Another director of the company is Folorunso “Folli” Dada Adeoye who is the co - founder and President of Superior Petroleum Limited, a downstream oil and gas company. He also co - founded Pacific Merchant Bank Limited in 1989, which subsequently merged into Unity Bank Plc, one of the leading banks in the country. He has served as Special Adviser to the Osun State Government on development matters. ![]() Adeoye's twenty-five years involvement in the Nigerian mining sector, where he co - founded Pineridge Nigeria Limited to execute technical and financial projects in joint ventures with the Nigerian Mining Corporation, is quite visible. Adeoye's work includes pioneering modern standards in gold exploration in Nigeria, with Tropical Mines Limited, the original indigenous owners of the Segilola Gold Project. The Segilola Gold Project comprises a proposed open-pit gold mining project based on an indicated mineral resource defined by a comprehensive drilling program including 157 drill holes totalling over 12,200 metres to define 555,000 ounces of gold at an average grade of 3.8 grams per tonne (at a cut-off grade of one gram per tonne Au and applying a top cut of 50 grams per tonne Au). The resources estimate was carried out by Odessa Resources Pty. Ltd, an independent geological and resource consultancy based in Western Australia, according to National Instrument 43-101 guidelines. An NI 43-101 technical report titled, "Updated resource estimate for the Segilola gold deposit, Osun state, Nigeria, for Thor Explorations," dated Feb. 25, 2016, has been filed by the company on SEDAR. The three remaining non-executive directors of Thor Exploration, are Dr. Julian Barnes - a specialist consultant, and Adrian Coates. The 3rd is James Philip, a former banker with Standard Chartered Bank, who has a broad range of skills in international advisory, and financing transactions across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The Segilola Gold Project is located in the crystalline basement complex rocks of southwestern Nigeria within one of the main "schist belts" known as the Ilesha Schist Belt. At Segilola, gold mineralisation is localised within structural "compartments" defined by the intersection of two main controlling features: a westerly-dipping footwall calc-silicate suite of rocks and sub-vertical shear zones. 4 Likes |

Ireland also elected its first black mayor. Rotimi Adebari, a native of Nigeria, was elected mayor of Portlaoise Town in 2007. Portlaoise(pronounced something like Portleash) is a town in central Ireland of approx. 14.000 inhabitants. However there is some controversy on the person of Rotimi Abedari as he would have lied about his troubles in Nigeria (and whereabouts previous to his life in Ireland) applying for the procedure to get legal residence in Ireland. 2 Likes
