“Financial freedom my only hope living rich and dying broke.” That’s a line from Jay-Z’s song, ‘The Story of O.J’. My favorite cut off the new album 4:44, in the song Jigga gives financial advice to black folks about financial freedom, reminding them of what is important and even using the Jews as an example. For me it is wonderful coming from Jay-Z who is by far the greatest, only after Notorious B.I.G, when it comes to rapping about materialism and consumerism.

So many times I see myself arguing with myself about some artistes I know of their financial situation. I mean, someone has a hot record and in a matter of months he grosses say N70,000,000 and after expenses and label’s cut, he might net around fifteen million Naira (15,000,000) and all of this is in about a quarter, or even six months. The shocker will come after about 3 months; this same person is flat broke… like, very broke.
