*God's Emergency Response Squad (GERS)*
In every security formation there is always an elite group of security men/women that are specifically created to respond to emergencies, they are always battle ready and can in minutes deploy to whatever location they are needed in the world at anytime.
They have been trained and disciplined for these assignments. They are sold out and ready to do everything to carry out their assignment even unto the point of death.
Yes, you guessed right! Watching some American action film painted a good image in my mind...lolz. But seriously speaking I have met quite a few of these guys in real life and I mean the real security forces and I have also seen them in action.
2011 during the rerun election in Delta State, I was an electoral officer in a village and we conducted a free and fair election which a particular party won but the other guys were angry, they surrounded us and we had to stay in a classroom and waited for whatever it is would happen.
Suddenly the secret service sweeped into the school compound with all these automatic weapons and all the thugs scattered into the nearby busy. The DSS picked us and the electoral materials into their truck in a commando like manner and within some minutes we were out of the village, escorted with these plastic automatic weapons and fierce looking men. I must also note that their leader was a lady.
In the spiritual as well, God recruits men and women into squads like this, they are the emergency response squad. When God needs an assignment done, he contacts them.
We can see some examples in scripture;
- The servants in the house of Abraham were trained to respond to emergencies. Even though they weren't going to war every day, when there was need to go to battle, they defeated armies of kingdoms.
- David's army also had these groups of men.
- The woman at Zarephath was also in this squad, God knew he could send Elijah to her and she won't begin to argue or resist. Some people can never give up their meal no matter who you are.
- We can go through other examples in the Bible where God gave an emergency assignment to someone and the fellow responded with speed but the example I like most is the one of Philip the evangelist, he was just minding his business and the Holy Spirit said to him "Join this chariot..."
The Holy Spirit was already working on the heart of the Ethiopian Eunuch and needed one of His servants to seal it, the only member of GERS available was Philip, he has an effective squad member carried out the instructions to the letter and when he was done the Spirit of God dispatched him to another location.
God delights in His GERS, he relies on them. He trains them specially as well. He takes them through some lessons that toughen them and make them fit.
That we may have many GERS in this generation. Are you one? Can you be relied upon to deliver at the shortest notice?
