No Vacuum In Presidency, Says South-south Caucus by real4life: 1:48am On Feb 05, 2010
Barely a day after the House of Representatives passed a resolution affirming that it has no powers to compel President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to transmit a letter to National Assembly on his long absence from the country; its South-South parliamentary caucus has declared that there is no vacuum in the Presidency.

The position of the caucus on the issue was contained in press release signed by the chairman of the caucus, Hon. Andrew Uchendu (PDP, Rivers) after their meeting yesterday in Abuja.

The caucus argued that both President Yar’Adua and his vice, Goodluck Joanthan, were elected on the same ticket and since the indisposition of the President, the vice president has been discharging his duties effectively.

“On the issue of leadership vacuum in the country, the caucus observed that the President and Vice President ran the Presidential Election on a joint ticket. And therefore, observed that in compliance with the constitutional provisions, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, the vice President has so far most ably covered the duties of Mr. President, including the deployment of troops during the recent crisis in Jos.”

The group lamented that ‘some elements’ had introduced sectional sentiments into the absence of the president from the country on health grounds and the calls for the need for him to send a letter to the National Assembly.

“The caucus further stated that it is unfortunate that some elements are reading some regional bias to the issue of transmission of letter by Mr. President to the National Assembly. This should not be so.

“The South-South caucus does realise what is in its best interest and we know the reason for it. We invite Nigerians who love us most to encourage the federal government to ensure that the amnesty programme is fully executed and that it awards all the contracts in the 2009 Appropriation supplementary budget for the development of the Niger Delta.”

I am highly disappointed in the damn SS yoooooo wtf
Nigguz all around the country want a SS vp to to become president and these asses are holding eachother back.

We should do away with the SS caucus and grouping all of them together because deez nigguz cant make their fuckin minds up. I dont think the SS leaders speak for the SS people,(like every region) but this region is agitating the most like they dont see their own leaders- cutting them short.
Those from the SS betta wake up and stop crying all this region shiot -without looking for those in their own region.

its because there is nothing like south south. what you have is a region with many interests. notice that the chairman of this caucus is igbo. i think south south should be balkanized into three groups, east crossriver and akwa ibom, central igbo and west ijaw and urhobo, isoko and others.

I personally think top politicians from that region dont want Goodluck to be president because most of them are eyeing that job.

Imagine if Goodluck becomes president, with PDP rotational policy it means those greedy politicians like Ibori, Odili and co have to wait until they are in their 90s before they have another chance.
