Until recently the whole world knew little or nothing about the current and youngest president of France; Emmanuel Jean Macron. At the age of 39, Macron is the youngest president in French history. Until his recent election as the number one citizen of the Eiffel tower, Macron had never held any elected position. Macron, a centrist, has maintained that his aim is not to bring people to either the right or the left as most analyst were made to think, but to unite the French people at a time when it has become almost impossible to speak with one voice due to differences in opinions with the immigration crisis rocking the nation.
Macron, a graduate of philosophy at Paris Nanterre University completed his master's of public affairs degree at the Sciences Po graduating from École nationale d'administration. At 39, Emmanuel Macron has worked as an investment banker and a civil servant before becoming an aide to franco Hollande in 2012, two years later he was appointed France economy minister but he resigned in 2016 after struggling to push labour reforms through parliament . During his time as economy minister, he spearheaded the so-called " Macron Law," which aimed to shake up the economy through labor reform, a measure forced through the National Assembly with the help of a controversial parliamentary measure that led to several days of protest.
In November of 2016, he announced that he was making a run for the office of the president and it caught fire with his now famous phrase which later became a political party and movement; “En March,” translated in English as “On the move”. Macron's election manifesto promised to reform France’s welfare and pensions system and he has also been vocal about the fight against terror and law and order, announcing proposals to increase defense spending, hire 10,000 more police officers and create a task force that would work around the clock to fight ISIS.
Macron's policies was aimed at wooing conservative voters, but he was also smart enough to unveil proposals to please the left too, through his call for better pay for teachers working in poor, socially diverse areas. Macron is staunchly pro-European and has promised to put France back at the heart of the EU and defend the bloc's single market. He has also struck a diplomatic tone seeking constructive dialogue with US President Donald Trump, while expressing interest in working with Russia, Iran, Turkey and Saudi Arabia towards lasting political solutions in Syria and elsewhere.
