Who spends 10M on education if the person hasn't got the zeal for education, boost one career or have some more money elsewhere. Are you going to Canada to secure a better because you think you will do better in the pharmacy line over there. How many years of work experience have you? If you give wealth managers 10M to manage for you, you may triple the 10M in 4 years. You may still be working and may have saved more, gained more work experience. You are still young. If you are smart, check for scholarship opportunities. Don't rush abroad.

I have a Master's degree in Chemistry and no job yet but my hope is intact and here is someone with a good job contemplating giving it up.
Me think you can develop yourself here in Nigeria and grow your career in where you are working already. Moreover, you didn't even tell us where you work or the nature of your job right now.
Listen, ones your pay can take care of your family and you are a blessing to others, stay put. There are pharmacist who aren't fulfilled even in the Canada you want to go.

Sincerely I won't be in total support of you traveling out of the country now for another degree in pharmacy. Bro, the truth is you're doing great and I believe you will still do more greater here in Nigeria. Plan towards getting a sound MBA from a well established institution like Lagos Business School or any other good ones. For now continue to gain experience and acquire a lots of them! Keep hustling and you're doing great brother. I tap into earning those figures very soon!

God bless you!

Bro since your underlined reason is to leave this country why not go through Canada immigration program (express entry) since you have the experience and qualifications.you can do this while still working once you're successful and get your green card you can resign and relocate.

I can't speak on Canada but MBA degrees are almost worthless in the US without strong experience and the right connections. A pharmacy degree almost ensures a job.
You can't get into an MBA (a good one) in America without at least 3 years work experience and an MBA is built mostly on networking. Big schools like Havard, Stanford and the rest value their alumni so much. In fact, the high fees is partly due to the value they place on their alumni.

Guy, you stand at advantage , first your age and more so you are single. I will advice you go for your further studies in Canada. After the completion of your studies and with working experience over there. You will stand at advantage to get a job in Nigeria or start your own company if you decide to come back. The 400-500k you are earning will not be compared to what you will earn after completion of your studies. Your future is secure. Please go ahead. All the Best.

Truth is N500k buys you better life here in Nigeria than there where half will go to tax.

Why not get an online or part time degree if just you want is a Pharm D but even if you just wan go stay for Canada, gather like 10m to 15m so that you don't start with struggling over there

"Not all that glitters is gold". A bird at hand is worth two in the bush. It's not always easy out there. U can combine studies and work in Nigeria. I've got friends with good degrees from Scotland, England and the likes but struggling here in Nigeria.

When you are through with your degree in canada and get a job there, you will be earning far above $150,000 per annum, this is above N4mil per month in naira equivalent. You can even make more than your current Nigerian salary while doing unskilled jobs at Canada while you school.

Save your future and that of your unborn kids; you are young and no family to tie you down. N400k is not that lucrative; convert it to dollars and you will realize you are not making that much; but to Nigerian standards, its fine.

Leave this gaddam country abeg.

Bruuh go school study hard get employee does not work again.
The money 10million you want to waste in education better invest in in real estate and reinvest reinvest while still working here in Nigeria. Beside is there no online pharmacy degree you can do from here.

Hi nairalanders please I am currently about taking a decision regarding my future. I am a 26 years old single guy. I currently work in a company where I earn between 400-500k monthly( salary, allowance and personal hustling)... Now the issue is that I am contemplating on travelling to Canada to study pharmacy with the intention of staying there permanently after school or do a professional MBA here in Nigeria with the aim of growing through the ranks in the pharmaceutical industry. Please I need your contributions...

NB; cost of obtaining a pharmacy degree in Canada is about 10M...Should I invest the money in a business?

it all depends on what you are looking for in life, what exactly are you looking for in life? is it to be rich, be around loved ones (friends, and family) or live in somewhere everything works and you can have good quality of life for your kids?, it is only when u answer the above question that i can provide my answer.

You need to also consider the probability of getting a job in canada as a pharmacist, are there exams you need to write, if yes how long? how easy is it to ace? will you be using your saving for school fess? or a scholarship?

Also what are the prospect for growth and an income raise in your current job and position, do you think you can earn more working here ? Are there prospect for a promotion?

My brother not all that glitters is cold, i know of many people who left oil company jobs and didnt make it in canada, till today they clean houses( what an insult). I also know of people who left naija to canada and are doing so well in canada.

Also the weather in canada is cold, do you like cold, this may not seem like a big deal to you, but it is to some people.

My advice for you think and think well, pray and also speak to people in canada who are in pharmacy. you are lucky age is still on your side.

I also hear the medical line (pharmacy, nursing etc) get paid well over there.

All the best bro

Ephetar you should look into Canadian experience class. From what I've read it takes about a year and you get a PR card on the spot which means reduced tuition since you won't be paying international fees.

My first advice to you is you should first seek advice from someone that has taken similar risk and know the impending consequence. But my own advice is this;I advice u to travel and seek more knowledge on your field because definitely it will further enhance your earn-ability .But i advice you choose countries that are very advance in medical field(these countries there medical certificate can never be ignored in any part of the world),example united state of America,India,Australia .I am saying these because of my aunt who became a nurse in America after getting a fucking degree in economic from Nigeria.Different countries(kenya, ausrtralia, even Britain) in the world calls her for medical consultancy .My advice is do a very thorough background check of canada medical field so as not to regret in future.

The OP clearly stated he intends to stay there after completion of his M.sc that alone has changed the entire dynamics of the proposal. Here are my submissions:
1. You are young (26) and therefore have a huge advantage on this quest, therefore you could graduate and qualify and settle down before you get to 29.
2. Unlike most western countries, Canada's path towards residency and citizenship is far easier and the govt infact encourages it especially skilled professionals like you
3. Your salary of N500k is less than $1400 a month (minimum wage is $1200), of which a pharmacist can earn bw $2500-$7000 monthly.
This profession with Doctors, Nurses and other medical professionals are highly paid and in great demand of which you will surely benefit from. In summary, if you intend to return to nigeria and set up your own pharmacy and consultancy I will support you return, but if it's to look for a job once again it will be madness to turn down this opportunity of going to Canada. If it was UK, US, Australia or any other western country, then I would have advise you to instead do an online Msc program and remain at your job because residency and citizenship paths there are much more difficult

Guy, I'll advise you go for it. Its your kind of profession that is needed in countries like Canada which means you'll definitely get a job. If you were paid say over a million naira monthly. I would advise you consider remaining in Nigeria. Actually, I've been wanting to take this form of decision too and so do many less priviledged Nigerians but've been constrained with funds.

If you shine your eyes, you'll realise that the security of this great country Nigeria is well secured in quote.

I don't need a job, I'm okay with what i earn in my paid employment but if i have any opportunity, i go take off.

Based on your backdrops, it is crystal clear that you want to leave this country for "whatever reason"or maybe your friends are all based in Yankee. But have u had a deep thought that leaving your lucrative job to pursue your master programme in Canada is feasible. why not take the programme here based on part time level and continue with your job. At least we have credible higher institutions that will give you the best.
Just a penny for your thought. All the best.

That is a lie. I schooled with many people who now have useless MBAs. Most MBA graduates do not come from Ivy league schools, but I will agree that those who do are likely more employable. What you are forgetting is that many of those attending the Ivy league schools are already well connected to the wealthy or make those connections through school, thereby creating a pipeline to well paying companies. Let the op not be deceived. I've seen some Nigerians who came for MBAs and Masters of Public Health, only to end up in nursing school later. The MBA path is a dead end for him (at least in the US).

OP first of all, 400k per month for now is just there and not lucrative considering the purchasing power of the Nigerian Naira.

I am sure you have your 10m ready for the Canada trip, this is what you should do, continue your work in-country for some more time and triple that amount, you have nothing to loose as you would have gotten more experience and more money.

When you triple that amount, you don't need to come to Nairaland, on your own like this, you go just dey get divine inspiration on what to do :- undecided.

You are presently confused now because you do not have more than enough money, maybe all you have now is just enough for the trip hence your fears.

I wish you the very best of life, God bless your hustle.

500k monthly is not money in today's Nigeria economy with 17% inflation and 4% interest rate on average on savings account. Remember it is less than $2000.

Proceed to Canada and live a better life with clean air devoid of generator noise. After your education you will earn not less than $2500 in Canada and marry a less narcissist wife that has no family problems and mental issues.

Personally, my monthly expenses surpasses that salary.

By the way I make way more than you are making but the cost of running 24/7 gen and staff salaries and recurring expenses clocks over 500k monthly. So take my advise and move at the speed of light. Coz 500k is not money and you know it. Those who don't earn that think it's money. It is not.

Best advice so far!
