This social problem in Nigeria is having a negative effect in every aspect of the Country be it Politically and Economically. Juvenile Delinquency is causing series of havoc in Nigeria and putting the life of Juvenile delinquent at stake. This is believed to have contributed a lot to set back in the State Nigeria. Initially, illicit act begins at a very tender age among Nigerians and later develops to a form of lifestyle that is Juvenile Delinquency.
This can be curb and eradicated through different measures depending on the approach but for the purpose of this write up I will be dwelling on the SOCIOLOGICAL APPROACH. Also I believe that: "For things to be good in Nigeria it calls for gradual process".
Firstly the Sociological curb measure is concerned with the Family because Society is made up of the family. There should be proper upbringing, care and monitoring by the Parents. They shouldn't toy with their children's life because they are the tomorrow of Nigeria as popularly said and to any social problem, solution emanates from the Home as regard to the Sociologist belief.
Peer group influence: "Show me your friend and I will tell you whom you're" says a common adage, also "Bad friends corrupts and influence both good manner and behaviour. The friends we have is of high probability of turning us into Juvenile delinquent. For instance; Seyi who doesn't smoke becomes friend to Sola a delinquent with high level of smoking, it is likely for Seyi to become a smoke addict. Let Parent monitor the friends, play mates/groups and contemporaries their wards associate themselves with.
Religious Institutions: Nothing much to discuss on this, Religious Leaders should preach often against juvenile delinquency.
Government: As a matter of fact the Nigerian Government is trying their possible best to put an end to juvenile delinquency. I am calling on the Nigeria Police Force to stand and implement all necessary and related policies through Their specialized units and commands.
Lastly, I will be calling much attention on the Community, that is the Society we all find our selves. Each community should come up with her own way to sanction and punish juvenile delinquents. Traditional Council should make policies to curb this. Although most communities are not helping the situation but complicating the issue.
Juvenile delinquency is actually endagering the Country and putting a set back to Nigeria as a whole. Thanks, I remain Oluwatosin Oyewole Ajiboye.
