firstly, you will require an FTP (File Transfer Protocal) Client. Filezilla http://filezilla-project.org/download.php is a very good FTP Client. secondly, you will need to have login details to gain access for upload. this is usually provided by your host company. when you launch the application on successful installation, click on 'FILE' >> 'Site Manager'. You should have a dialog box which will give you an option to add 'New Site'. While adding new site, you will be requested to supply the following information: host, servertype, logontype, user, password. The host name is usually the ftp.domainname.com, while servertype will be FTP - File Transfer Protocol, Logontype will be Normal. The username and password should be provided to you by your host. When you are done with all of the data input, just click connect. and BINGO! you are connected if details are correct and you can start to upload. Now, depending on the host, the files you see on the right pane differs. Sometimes you see a folder called htdocs and logfiles, in this case you are to upload your files in the htdocs folder. In some other cases, you'll see 'anon_ftp, cgi-bin, error_docs, httpdocs, httpsdocs, private, stats'; in this case you should upload in the httpdocs folder. And in some other cases, you'll see 'db, logs, wwwroot'; in this case you will upload your files to wwwroot folder. I hope this little piece helps you. If not there are millions of questions just like yours on the internet, just use google, and make em ur best friend just like the last user adviced. |

wow! that is a lot of information on ftp but i am only conversant with uploading through the file manager. You are welcome, the file manager is also good. I use it mostly when i need to download or upload and am not with my system or the system at hand does not have an FTP client. You can also use http://www.webftper.com. this is very quick and fast. one of its major advantages is that, you can upload a folder that has folders in it with ease by simply zipping the folder and upload, Signing out, |
