Ebonyi : ‘concerned Workers’ Protest Over One Year Processing Of Home Renovation by nneamaka114: 12:00pm On Jul 24, 2017
Workers in Ebonyi State have protested what their called an elastic style of processing the Home Renovation Loan, HRL by the Federal mortgage Bank.
The civil servants who protested under the aegis of ‘Concerned civil servants’ said they were compelled to visit the office of the Head of service to register their grievances over an endless processing of the Home Renovation loan which has lasted for close to two years without results.
Speaking on behalf of the workers, Mr Jeremiah Nwuzor lamented that where workers would have forgotten about the loan after its rigorous and lengthy processes, the State office of the Federal mortgage Bank had continued to distract them to come and fill this or that, which would later be dumped only to be called again to repeat similar processes.
Mr Nwuzor regretted that apart from heavy financial commitment which the loan demanded from benefitting workers, as they were made to pay between N20,000 to N50,000 per beneficiary to secure a certified Bill of Quantity, the Bank subject ‘yet to benefit civil servants’ to other repeated minor expenses, even in the face of economic recession.
Responding, the State Head of Service, Dr Chamberlain Nwele promised the concerned workers that the State government will do everything possible to ensure that their grievances were taken care of.
Dr Nwele revealed that he had earlier set up a 3 man ad hoc committee to look into the possible cause of delay and report back to the management of his office for further necessary actions.
He warned that if the Federal Mortgage Bank were unable to fix whatever that had generated the delay which has lasted more than a year, or offer satisfactory or assuaging explanations on what may have occasioned the delay, Ebonyi State government may have no further option than to suspend every deductions accruable to the Bank.
He stressed that cases where the state office as well as the National headquarters of the Bank denies responsibility for the delay, will no longer be accepted as one or two beneficiaries of the loan had died in wait for same.
