Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja has resolved to clear destitutes and beggers from its streets and send them back to their home states after dangerous weapons linked to Boko Haram terrorist group was found on one of them.
Chairman of the council, Alhaji Abdullahi Danladi Galadima, disclosed that the disabled man who was found with a pistol and some explosives was intended for use at crowded areas such as the market or other social gatherings. He described the discovery of the incident as a dangerous shift in Boko Haram tactics, which must be dealt with.
“If not for God’s intervention who exposed the begger, Kuje would have been in mourning mood now had the opportunity to use the weapons presented itself to the begger,” the visibly disturbed chairman told journalists in an interview.
He explained that after it was established that some of the disabled persons have been enlisted to assist the Boko Haram in its neferous murderous campaign, the council resolved at its recent meeting to clear the destitutes from the streets and send them back to their respective states to improve security within Kuje town.
He disclosed that security agents have been questioning the disabled person to obtain more information about how he got the weapons, hoping that the interrogation may lead the police to unravel the cell of the terrorist group in the town.
Galadima also disclosed that efforts were in top gear to apprehend those who killed the ward secretary of the All Progressives Congress [APC] Mohammed Adamu, when two rival vigilante groups fought at a mosque in Kayarda quarters over the control of the nearby main market. The two rival vigilante groups have been disbanded to pave the way for lasting peace in the area, the chairman said.
He promised that a by- pass would soon be constructed to ease the traffic along the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road which runs through the centre of the town while efforts will be made to clear drainages in the town to protect Kuje from flooding.
