Brick can also be weak when produced incorrectly... although it would still be stronger than weak sandcrete blocks. The problem with a lot of sandcrete blocks is the mix ratio. It is better to produce your own blocks on site where you can monitor the mix ratio.

Baddestman:
People should stop using block to build high building, use brick that is strong.

IThis year's rain is something else. I blame nature for most of the recent building collapse across Nigeria.

The picture below shows a 3 story building that was collapsed today in orlu main town. As an eye witness present on the ground there was no live lost.
Both the Owner and Contractor should be arrested for creating this death trap.

This is clearly used of inferior quality materials. Looking at the pics, there are more sand than cement in part of the decking. This is just bad. Only if the owner just used his resources correctly and build a story building with good materials....

Funny thing is that it is mainly newly constructed houses that are failing. There are still storey buildings from the 50s still standing today. Why is that?

DANGOTE is not helping matters with the high cost of cement which makes builders overmix sand to a bag of cement instead of using the correct aggregate.

What has Dangote's price of Cement got to do with collapse?

The entire economy has tanked. Do you expect him to retain hos Cement price at N1,000 because he is father of Nigerians?
The price is driven by the state of the economy.

Why won't buildings collapse in Nigeria?

1. Bricklayers calls and parade themselves as Site Engineers because they can put plumb line and knock pegs.

2. SON decided to overlook the standards of building materials due to bribery and corruption by manufacturers.

3. COREN have also left their duties for politics.

4. DANGOTE is not helping matters with the high cost of cement which makes builders overmix sand to a bag of cement instead of using the correct aggregate.

Until we tackle these issues, buildings will continue to collapse
on point

One man in charge of supplying cement in a country of 180 million people. Typical of a zoo country.

Cement price shot up by N1000 in one night, never came down, even though the exchange rate of the local currency had tumbled down since the price increase.

People now economise cement, or completely stopped building.
