UI has over 50 years of research work to digitize and upload unlike some private schools that started some 15 years ago. 17 Likes 1 Share |

If lautech, a school that has been shut for years is 14th on that list, then I'm giving up on webometric ranking. Nice one from CU, UNN, and Futminna. 34 Likes 2 Shares |

Statsocial, I can see so may private universities fast rising up in the ranks. But covenant university suffered a serious slip. What could have been responsible? Me I observed that the continuous us of 2010 to 2014 research works to make assessments is not of advantage to CU and other new universities because the more the years go by, the better they get and the stronger their research base. what do you think? 1 Like 1 Share |

LARRYDKING: You should first read the methodology and the years time range of research works assessed (2010 - 2014) before stating your reservations. 11 Likes |

EXPLANATIONS AND OBSERVATIONS ON THE RANKING The ranking judges university all over the world based on the size, impact and accessibility of their research works, measured across four main indicators as briefly described below: Presence: refers to the total number of web pages a university has, including rich files (like pdf), according to google. This accounts for 5% of the overall rank. Impact/Visibility: How visible an institution and its work out-put is on the web. The maximum indicator value obtained from two independent link information providers (ahrefs and majestic) was utilized. The top 20 linking domains and their corresponding back links were excluded from the calculation, for reliability. Weight: 50%. Openness/Transparency: Utilizes data from the google scholar citation of an institution. (Weight = 10%). Excellence: Statistics of the top 10% most cited papers by discipline for a five year period of 2010 to 2014. Weight: 35%. Harvard University (USA) emerged overall tops in the world once again, after outstandingly ranking first in just two indicators; unlike the previous edition when they were ranked first in all indicators. University of Capetown (South Africa) maintained top position in Africa while also moving up to the 303rd position in the world. For Nigerian Universities; University of Ibadan (UI) remained first among the country’s varsities, but also recorded an impressive breakthrough in the ranking, moving up from 1333rd position in the world to 1032nd; and breaking into the top 10 highly ranked varsities in Africa (with 9th position). Covenant University (CU) remained second in Nigeria but suffered a huge drop in the world ranking; finishing 27th position in Africa. University of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka displaced the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) from her previously held 3rd position in Nigeria (since the past two editions of the ranking). ofai: Yeah I noticed the update early this morning also. 4ICU is based on web-presence and it's a good indicator of universities' reputation and therefore, impact. 7 Nigerian universities were ranked among the top 50 Universities in Africa, and for the first time, Nigeria had 5 among the best 30 universities in Africa on 4ICU! 3 Likes |

Unfortunately we could not make the 1000 list of best global universities. This is an aberration and a disgrace to our education system. We are oscillating between mediocrity and mockery of education success. No wonder our leaders don't trust even our best educational institutions. 5 Likes |
