Voguepay Seeks To Reward Nigeria’s Brightest Students And Developers by Voguepay: 4:39pm On Jul 31, 2017
VoguePay, one of the leading online payment gateways in Nigeria, in conjunction with the National body of Computer Science Students in Nigeria (NACOSS) seeks to reward Nigeria’s brightest students and developers who are building e-commerce and other software technology that can impact and improve various sectors of Africa’s economy.

Every year, undergraduates of various Nigerian Universities under the auspices of Nigerian Association of Computer Science Students gather for an annual convention. The 2017 edition would be remarkable as VoguePay.com; a leading Nigerian payment gateway with operations in 4 continents has offered to sponsor a special business/idea hack as part of the 5-day programme.

The students’ annual convention holds from July 31st to August 4th at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, with guests including the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Honorable Minister of Communication, Alhaji Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu and Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, Governor of Akwa Ibom State. The keynote for the event will be delivered by Daniel Steeves, who is a veteran software solutions architect for global brands like Adidas and also a board advisor to VoguePay. Daniel is bringing over 35 years of software development and consultancy to global brands to empower the students on the business of building and delivering software that solves real life needs.

The CEO of VoguePay, Michael Simeon noted that VoguePay is delighted to offer a unique opportunity to the students to demo their innovative business ideas/software solutions across agriculture, eCommerce or any sector of the economy. He affirmed that the contest is designed with the aim to empower Nigerian undergraduates interested in building tech-enabled business solutions that will solve real-life challenges in Nigeria. He added that unlike most hackathons which are designed to help the sponsor-company to fix challenges of their product, this event is strictly not self-serving.

As one of the judges for the event, Leke Ojikutu, the company’s co-founder and CTO noted that participants are free to present on any business idea of their choice by using the experience they have gained during their ongoing studies to identify and enunciate real world problems and conceive or create technological solutions accordingly. “We are passionate about helping students unleash their entrepreneurial skills by building solutions to real business pain points” added Wole Ogunlade, the company’s head of digital media and strategy. He further noted that it is an initiative of the company’s willingness to give back to the tech ecosystem and society at large.

Speaking further on the development, the company’s COO, Ojikutu Quam, said that VoguePay is happy to identify with the talents in our tertiary institutions and mentioned that the top 3 winners of the competition will win more than two hundred thousand (N200,000) in cash prizes and there would be consolation prizes for all contestants. The winner will also get assistance to formally register his/her business with the Corporate Affairs Commissions.

The VoguePay/NACOSS competition is part of a strategic 5-year partnership that the company is pursuing to help raise awareness about local talents on software development among students of tertiary institutions. Geoffrey Weli-Wosu, co-founder and head of legal, marketing and compliance affirmed.
