Mend eyes Nigeria changes The main militant group in Nigeria's oil-producing Niger Delta said today it was monitoring developments after Vice President Goodluck Jonathan assumed presidential powers, but declined to comment further. Upstream staff 10 February 2010 10:19 GMT "We are monitoring the unfolding drama and will react at the appropriate time," the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (Mend) said in an email to Reuters. The group last month said it was ending a unilateral ceasefire and threatened renewed attacks on Africa's biggest oil and gas industry amid delays to an amnesty programme caused partly by the absence of President Umaru Yar'Adua. MEND should not hope for much. . . give Jonathan 3 months to make the right moves, otherwise step up the pressure on him. . . they must let the whole contry know that they will only be pacified by justice, not by Presidency. |

Bros Ibime, What I want is for Jonathan to dualise the East-West Road from Warri to James Town - with this opportunity we now have. If he fails to finish construction work on that road in say 10 months, I'm afraid we may never see anyone who will bring up the issues of East West Road dualisation again. |
