12 Funny Yet Serious Reasons People Leave Church And What To Do About It. by ChurchLeaders(m): 3:25pm On Aug 02, 2017
Leaving one church for another has become a norm, people have diverse reasons why they leave, some reason we may find justifiable, while others are just made up excuses.

So I have been able to discover 12 top funny reasons why a few church members are calling it quits with your church, I however advise that you don’t laugh off some of these reasons because they are worthy of consideration, and in growing your church I would usually refor granted.

1. The church is too stingy: It is not uncommon that some churches never seem to find out ways to reach out financially to their members, so much that they have never really given any sort of financial assistance to their members, forgetting that you should not only nourish their spirit but also their soul and body. Thus you’ll see that soft drinks, clothing, monthly birthday cakes, celebrations, etc. matters a lot to some members.
2. The church closes too late: Some churches go as far as closing one hour after the stipulated closing time. While some just never keep to time though this is so serious, I know there are times you can override the time for very good reasons, however it should not be a norm. An attitude like this keeps some members out of your church.
3. Church members are overdressed: Funny right? yet very real, some people walk out of your church because members are dressed as though there is a clothing contest every Sunday and even on week days, those that cannot keep up with this leave, while others feel churches like this are just a total waste of their time. For some this is a complete turn off. If this happens to be the case in your church, then you should make deliberate effort to look out for members or 1st timers who are not well dressed and give them clothe gifts. Also help the entire church understand that there is no dressing competition in the church so that they don’t skip church when they don’t have good clothes or shoes to wear.
4. The church ask for money too much: Hahahaha, there are yet those members who feel that the church is on a mission to run them dry. They see the church as bugging their pockets like they are ATM machines. This singular act pisses many members off your church, some even mark the church as too dependent and lazy. You should help them to see the results of their giving. They’ll even give more if they see that their givings are judiciously and gainfully used.
5. Those ministering speak too much grammar: Some churches do not understand what it is to communicate and how to communicate in simple lay man’s English, for some members this may mean that you are just showing off, others feel like there is no need of staying where you barely understand what they are saying. Don’t forget that even the word of God is written in simple English.
6. The Pastor lives too big: Some persons cannot just rap their heads around why a pastor should live big. They are not happy that the pastor is looking fresh, dressing gorgeously and using a wonderful car as if pastors are born to drive motor-cycles, be malnourished and wear rags, they feel the pastor is using their offerings and tithes to live large. There’s little or nothing you can do about this kind of members but to help them understand that you are a faithful steward of the resources God has given to your church.
7. The church is too big to notice them: For real, some people live to be noticed, so because your church is too big they cannot cope, they are in love with the attention that comes from being in smaller churches. Encourage these kind of members to join the small cell groups or home fellowships where they can be easily noticed and followed up better.
8. They speak in tongues too much in the church: Wow! there are those people that left your church and those that may still leave because they think speaking in tongues is like the official language in your church. Some see this as a show off, some just seem to hate it while others as believe it is fake. Show them to the word of God and help them understand that tongues need to be spoken for spiritual edification and not for show off.
9. Some particular church members fall under anointing too much: I once heard someone say that she left her church because some set of people were in the habit of falling under anointing with manifestations that got one suspicious. Some see this as planned, while others see the church as demon infested, and so leave before they get infected.
10. The church is too cold: Like seriously, while the luxury of your church is a plus to some, to some others it is not, some members cannot just cope with the over-effectiveness of your Air conditioner, they understand that you cannot put off your AC just for their sake, so they simply look for a comfortable church in their opinion. One point to note here is that the air conditioner was built to make man comfortable and Man was not built for the AC, this means that the AC is a variable and should be adjusted based on the bodily feelings of your church members.
11. No trace of their Life partner your church: Everybody has their different individual reasons for attending church, for some it is to find their life partner while for others it is to be found by their life partner, so when there is no sign of success in their search, they zoom off to continue in their pursuit. Encourage them to join the singles and youth fellowship and to attend all their programs.
12. Your church doesn’t have a welfare department: So some people probably left and may yet leave because your welfare department is even in need of welfare. They feel like they won’t get the help they need. You should empower your welfare department to help out especially in meeting some basic needs of your members like food, shelter and clothing.
