Igho Sanomi, one of Nigeria’s young billionaires who was recently unveiled as the third man in the alleged $1.7 billion swindle of Nigeria by former Petroleum Minister Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke and her associates, is the same man celebrated by Nigerian superstar Don Jazzy in the highlife version of the popular hit song – Dorobucci.

Alongside Messrs Kola Aluko and Jide Omokore, Sanomi reportedly collaborated with Mrs. Madueke in a series of oil deals during her time at the helm of the oil sector between 2010 and 2015, according to reports.

Sanomi owns the Taleveras Oil Group. Court documents filed in Houston by the US Justice Department show how Taleveras, along with oil traders Arcadia and Glencore paid $1.2 billion into Kola Aluko’s account in Switzerland.

It is alleged that Diezani – now being held in the UK on corruption charges – used her influence to facilitate inappropriate business opportunities for Aluko and Omokore by assigning to their companies, Atlantic Energy Drilling Concepts (AEDC) Limited and Atlantic Energy Brass Development (AEBD) Limited, eight oil mining leases (OMLs) despite warnings from the Governor of the Central Bank.

US prosecutors allege that AEDC and AEBD soon sold the oil-lifting allocations they were assigned under the Forcados and Brass SAAs to third-party oil trading companies, issuing massive bribes to Mrs. Alison-Madueke afterwards.

Taleveras Group and its affiliates, including Taleveras Trading Limited and Taleveras Petroleum Trading BV, reportedly took care of the distribution of funds to the various parties to the tune of $1.2bn.

Prosecutors posit that the payments were made to Mr. Aluko in return for assigning the AEDC’s rights to Taleveras and RFB Lengard to lift oil under the corruptly acquired SAAs.

But in a pushback, Taleveras said its involvement in the alleged dubious transactions followed best international practices, as a third party.

“This legal case is not against Taleveras or Igho Sanomi.

“As it relates to the US department case against Atlantic Drilling, please note that Taleveras and the other two major oil trading houses (Glencore and Arcadia) were not faulted for embarking on a legitimate transaction, as all payments were made based on legitimate third party contracts with private companies and not NNPC,” the company said.

Following the social media furore generated by claims that Diezani had defrauded Nigeria to the tune of $90 billion, Don Jazzy who celebrated Sanomi as a moneybag in the Dorobucci high life remix, took to Twitter to berate the former Minister, wondering if God could actually forgive her.

His tweet which caused a meltdown on Twitter Nigeria has since attracted the attention of Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo who in a response to the Mavin Boss said, “Those without character are accusing others of lacking character. If Diezani really stole what she is accused of stealing, let them prove it against her…

“Then that useless, dirty Afonja that calls himself Don Jazzy will open his mouth… Davido, children will open their mouth. Davido has not talked about his uncle Isiaka Adeleke; Bola Tinubu; Fashola; even Awolowo. From where did Awolowo make his fortune?”, Dokubo queried.
