Hundred of Tricycle operators popularly called ‘KEKE’ Wednesday afternoon blocked the entrance of the Ebonyi government House in protest of what they called multiple taxation charged the Tricycle operators in the State.
The protest which lasted close to three hours held the traffic at the Government House / Police Headquarter axis of the popular Ogoja Road to a screeching standstill, while commuters were forced to use alternative routes to their destinations.
The Keke Operators who were chanting solidarity songs, accused government Agencies of what they called multiple taxation.
According to one of the operators who pleaded anonymity, ‘’ We are tired of paying this or that. Everyday they will bring one thing and call it a different name and tell us to pay. Now, they are telling us to pay what they called ‘Driving Permit’. This is apart from other ones we have been paying. The money we make daily is no longer enough to take care of our families or even maintain our Keke to keep it on the road. Government should please help us please!’’
