Fashola moves to stall House probe

Cognisance of the consequence of impeachment, Lagos State governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), has started making frantic effort to free himself of allegation of financial impropriety levelled against him by a group, True Face of Lagos, which is being investigated by the State House of Assembly.

The governor was said to have been making moves to court the friendship of members of the House. It was gathered that the refusal of the governor to drop his plan for a second term ambition made the House to proceed with its investigation.

The State High Court sitting in Ikorodu, had given an injunction preventing the House from going ahead with the probe, though, the injunction will only last for seven days , starting from last Thursday, when it was granted.

The Speaker had said that the House would abide by the injunction pending the determination of the substantive suit.

The complainant, Mr. Richard Akinnola had gone to court to seek the court order to stop the State House of Assembly from going ahead with the probe of allegation of financial impropriety against the Governor.

Speaking on the development, one of the principal officers of the House that did not want his name in print, said the House decided to probe the allegation in order to determine the veracity of the allegation and not that the House was keen at impeaching the governor as being speculated .

Another source in the House added that it was expedient for the Governor to appeal to the lawmakers if he did not want them to rubbish his political career, and that he needed the lawmakers now than they need him.
