Nollywood is actually picking up. Its Yorubawood that has refused to pick up. They refuse to act in English language that will enable them sell to a broader market and generate more funds.

The mainstream Nollywood has moved ahead and left the outdated Yorubawood behind

Am sure the producer wont believe he tried to crack this dry joke in a couple of months from now
Re: Are These Yoruba Movies Produced For Illiterates? by dominique(f): 11:05pm On Feb 16, 2010
i agree with Ellyptical. yoruba nollywood are far behind their english counterparts. they've not improved since the 90s. at least, thry give us something to laugh about grin grin grin.

At first I didn't read the post I just clicked on the link. As I was watching, I thought the film was alright, although  the story line was weird  . . . . . . . then the helicopter. I actually was thinking that that was a nice shot with the shallow focus etc, I thought one of the kids were playing with a toy. . . . . then they started ducking. sad . . . . . it was after they duck finish and then they showed some perplexed mans face that looked like he belonged in a Daddy Showkey video that I knew this was supposed to be "a helicopter". . . . This is when my  nose running, facial contortions and eventually, my headaches started.

WOW!

grin

@ Ellyptical

I actually wanna see Ije.  Have you seen the preview for "grin'Comeback?" I saw it on youtube. It looks like it'll be a good one too. They used REAL helicopters, lol.

While some of the Yoruba films are downright horrendous, many from even outside
the ''Yoruba end'' of Nollywood, will agree Tunde Kelani has made some of the better
films out of Nigeria. Better storyline, better attention to the technical side etc.

Who says you must speak English in the films for it to sell, or do western TV stations not show Bollywood Hindi movies again? You mean the rest of the crappy American wannabe Nollywood has left Yorubawood how?

i have to say Araromire looks preety impressive. Kunle Afolayan (the guy that gave us Irapada) is a pure genius, a class apart from all the other less than mediocre producers who are always contented to give us crap part 1, 2 & 3.

Yoruba movies are getting better in dressing, quality, and production than the 90s. The only thing is they need to reduce the juju, obanje, and other fetish storylines.
Re: Are These Yoruba Movies Produced For Illiterates? by Obelomo: 8:08pm On Feb 19, 2010
I do agree w/ Dominique they do give us something to laugh about, in which I love comedy.
Re: Are These Yoruba Movies Produced For Illiterates? by aieromon(m): 11:18pm On Feb 19, 2010
You get shyt when you watch locally produced movies. . .
Except for some select producers,i just can't stand their works.
Re: Are These Yoruba Movies Produced For Illiterates? by Nobody: 1:39am On Feb 20, 2010
That helicopter scene was serious.
Re: Are These Yoruba Movies Produced For Illiterates? by Nobody: 7:30am On Feb 22, 2010
araromire looks interesting, but oddly familiar, as if I've seen it before.

I must have watched something like it in the horror genre.

i agree about Nigerian movies needing to reduce the reliance on fetish and suchlike themes. This one looks pretty impressive however- especially the corper scene.
