Devolution Of Power: The Inevitable Panacea To Agitations Across Nigeria. by EmeeNaka: 8:37pm On Aug 13, 2017
"Those who profess to favor freedom and yet depreciate agitation, are people who want crops without ploughing the ground; they want rain without thunder and lightning; they want the ocean without the roar of its many waters. The struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, or it may be both. But it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will"
Frederick Douglass.

Agitations are very important in bringing about changes in political life of every country or nations. Power concede to nothing except on demand. Therefore, the many agitations across should be well understood as the demand of Nigerians for an end in impunity, injustice, inequality and outright marginalization. These agitations has come in time past for the same thing but in different way and has continued till date in different way, it's clear indication that Nigeria never got the solution.
Federal government of Nigeria, like Gen Gowon said, have learnt nothing and forgotten nothing.
Since the present agitations of secession, Restructuring and Devolution of power began, Federal govt has always taken it lightly but in truth, Nigeria may never know peace until the developmental responsibilities in governance is handed over to state or regions across Nigeria.
The Solution to many agitations across Nigeria is the Devolution of Power.
" Devolution is the statutory delegation of powers from the central government of a sovereign state to govern at a subnational level, such as a regional or local level."
Nigeria must compulsorily devolve power to achieve peace, cohesion and growth. Federal govt should have no other functions than Commanding the Military and Paramilitary forces, Cordination of Foreign policy,Immigration,INEC and few others.
The states and Local govt of Nigeria should take the bulk of allocations available up to 70% while FG takes the rest. This will enable the states be responsible to the people and the people can also hold them to account.
