In Regent, near Freetown, Sierra Leone, more than 300 people sadly lost their lives following a mudslide that occurred in the area. The sad event happened as the a hillside in the Regent breakdown on Monday after an unusual rainstorm which cause the mud sliding and invading homes at midnight when people has gone to bed. The emergency services are on the scene helping to rescue those that are deeply stuck under the broken hillside. National television broadcaster of Sierra Leone had to hold their routine programming to show the sorrowful event where people were bringing out the body of their family that lost their lives. The Mortuary officer in Freetown, Sinneh Kamara, told the broadcaster that they have received over 200 bodies following the mass deaths and the deceased bodies are being stored in the floor of the morgue as the capacity of the mortuary can't contain them all. Following the situation on ground, over 2000 people have been left homeless. As it stands, they are looking for recover more deceased bodies, Red Cross spokesman, Abu Bakarr Tarawallie said: "It’s likely that hundreds are lying dead underneath the rubble,” Vice-President Victor Foh told Reuters. “The disaster is so serious that I myself feel broken,” said Foh, adding that authorities were trying to cordon off the area and evacuate people.
