Suspected ritualists, cultists kill three in Ekiti

RESIDENTS of Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State capital yesterday woke up to behold the bodies of three persons believed to have been killed by ritualists and cultists.

The bodies were discovered at different parts of the state capital with one of them identified as a student of the University of Ado-Ekiti, who was believed to have been hacked to death by a gang of cultists that invaded his residence at Araromi Quarters of the town.

It was gathered that the student who lived in a twin-flat known as "Peace Island" and "Uptown" was said to have been dragged out of his house and butchered by the killers.

The development may have forced all residents of the house to flee for safety as a visit to the house revealed that the entire area has been deserted while efforts to inquire about the identity of the student failed to yield any positive result.

The few residents around locked themselves inside and refused to answer questions from journalists who besieged the area for information on the incident.

The second victim, a lady, was discovered at Akinlabu Olu Avenue, along Housing Road where her lifeless body was dumped after some vital organs had been removed.

A resident said that the girl might have fallen a victim of ritualists who removed vital parts of her body after she was killed.

"We just woke up this morning and discovered the lifeless body of this young girl, who cannot be more than 15 years. We discovered that her eyes and some other parts of her body had already been cut off. Immediately we realised this, some of the residents contacted the police to get the body evacuated", the source said.

The third victim was killed at Fountain Hotel, along Iyin Road, Ado-Ekiti, during a musical show to commemorate the 2010 Valentine's Day. It was gathered that the deceased was shot by a gang of cultists, who stormed the ceremony and shot sporadically into the air to disrupt the programme.

It was further gathered that the victim of the gun-attack made spirited efforts to flee the place when one of the cultists ran after him and sprayed several bullets on him. As the bullets hit him, he was said to have fallen down and died in the pool of his blood.

Efforts to reach the state Police Command's spokesman, ASP Mohammed Jimoh, to comment on the incidents failed as calls to his mobile phone were not picked.

But a police source confirmed the incidents to journalists who besieged the Divisional Police Station at Oke-Ila for confirmation, saying: "It actually happened. Even as we were battling with the ones that happened on Sunday night, another one happened today, close to us here. A teenager was killed around here and we heard some of her parts were missing".
