At least 13 people have been confirmed dead and about 50 injured in what Authorities have described as a terrorist attack at Las Ramblas Historical Area, Barcelona.

A white van, according to reports, plowed into crowds of people in the Las Ramblas area which is normally very busy with tourists.



Witnesses said that the van made its way down the avenue running down pedestrians as they tried to flee from the rampaging vehicle.

Reports state that The Islamic State Terror Group have claimed responsibility for the attack on Barcelona .



The man behind the wheel of the white van, initially tried to escape on foot but was soon tracked down and arrested by the Spanish police.

The suspect has been identified as Driss Oukabi -who allegedly rented the van that was used in the attack on Barcelona.



More suspects have popped up all over the police radar as it is not quite clear how many were involved in the attack. One suspect was even shot down in a shoot out with the Catalan Police while resisting arrest.



A manager at an 18th century building, LA Palau Moja, claimed she saw the horror caused by the van. The manager who goes by the name of Carol Augustin said:

“We saw everything. People started screaming and running into the office. It was such a chaotic situation. There were families with children. The police made us close the doors and wait inside.”



This is not the first time a vehicle has been used in a terror attack. Since July 2016, there have been confirmed vehicle attacks on pedestals across Europe, killing over a hundred people in Berlin, London, Nice and Stockholm.
