The salary scale is not so encouraging, no wonder most lecturers are not passionate about their job. Handout sales will never end.

Most of those stuffs have been refined. I no sure say the tin sweet reach like that.
Annual and Research leave; Car and housing loans. Who want give you?
Are you a Prof?
If you're a Prof, then you have enough money na.
I think, the study leave is granted to graduate assistant immediately they're appointed. They're bonded (swearing in court ...that...I DON'T KNOW) and paid full salary till they return. Even those for P.hD must be funded by TETFUND (about 4m) with full salary. But bonded. For prof, who you know...its kinda messed up with politicking/lobbying.

A University Prof earning 381k a month dt is ridiculously poor n a fresh PhD holder earning 137k when most banks pay their tellers n entry level staff with HND/Bsc up to 200k chai

A state commissioner earns nothing less than 3.5 million in a month in a poor state in Nigeria, a uni Prof need not earn as much but deserves at least 1 million per month.

What is the salary of a councillor
What is the salary of local govt chairmen
What is the salary of state house of Assembly members

Let me not talk abt senators, ministers and HOR members.

Anyway d job of a lecturer is soo flexible and if ur area is in demand u can work in up to 3 or 4 unis n with dt u can make over 1 million monthly plus handout, textbook, sorting cash n kind for d ladies.
Dts y some lecturers esp in poly will never go on strike n they will live well even if u owe them for one yr corruption. I once heard in a a certain polytechnics with a class of over 1200 students dt students use 1k to submit assignment ie 1.2 million ie for one course n if he is handling 3 courses ie 3.6 million on assignment sorting alone lol oga lecturer easy ooo

Job security is one of the advantages of being a lecturer, just like in many other government firms/ministries. Many people are still on the job today because of this. Elsewhere, such as banks, oil companies and many private firms, you could easily get sacked for various reasons such as not meeting up target, too many staff on payroll, forceful retirement etc. But it's not same in govt. Jobs, the worse case scenario- your promotion is delayed.

The major disadvantage of being a lecturer is, no time for other engagement, like part-time job elsewhere, except when you attain the status of Professor. Professors are permitted to get involved in other engagement such as consultancy, part-time jobs with other universities etc. This is so because they spend limited hours in the classroom/lecture theatre.

However, lecturing job could be profitable depending on the university. Some universities e.g University of Lagos, are very strict with lecturers when it comes to extortion. Lecturers ain't allowed to extort money from students in the name of handouts, textbooks, assignments, examinations etc. Only laboratory manual( for science students) is compulsory. Others are bought or paid for by students on their own volition. So lecturers in this case, hardly earn extra income aside their salary.
Meanwhile in certain universities, lecturers make a lot of cash from selling handouts, textbooks. Some even go as far as collecting money from students for submission of assignments and upgrading of examination results. So in this case, lecturers are happy to stay on the job, as it means more cash, even though it's at the detriment of the students.

For now yes. It is a consolidated salary all allowances inclusive. When the earned academic allowance become regularised you might expect more allowances. For now the earned allowances come after every ASUU strike session angry

The salary quoted up here was approved in 2009. I'm aware this was before minimum wage increase of 2011. Does that mean lecturers dont benefit from upward review of minimum wage? Nothing has changed between 2009 and now. This is not encouraging.
