The management courses offered in FUTO are Project Management Technology, Transport Management Technology, Maritime Management Technology, Information Management Technology, and Financial Management Technology.

I don't think these courses are outside the institution's core mandate.

Really?? Why would they take such step without informing the affected school?

School like FUNAAB needs management course because it is still related to agriculture. Should we say finance, economics, business admin and co are not needed in agriculture? What kind of clueless educational board do we have in the country sef? undecided

We have very senseless leaders. That a school is a technological schools doesn't mean that they can't venture outside their area of core competence or focus.
They were established as Specialist institutions and should do well to concentrate on their areas of specialty..atleast until given the mandate from the appropriate body..

What about Postgraduate management courses, are they delisting them too?
Re: JAMB Delists Management Courses In Seven Universities by Kings109: 5:07pm On Aug 20, 2017
The management offered in some of the Universities of technology listed above is science based. I'm aware science subjects are required for admission in undergraduate programmes and for graduate programmes, your background must be engineering or science. Some of the programmes are not even done by the conventional universities (Eg. Project management)
FG should review her decision

If they meet the requirements, let them study the management courses...
London school of Economics comes to mind!

Yarnvibes:
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has delisted management courses of some universities in its current admission brochure.

They are Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Modibbo Adamawa Federal University of Technology, Yola (MAUTY), Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) and University of Agriculture, Makurdi (UAW).

This is sequel to an order by the federal government that the universities of Agriculture and Technology should stop running management courses and focus on their core mandates.

The directive was issued by the Ministry of Education after it was approved recently by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

i knew it. what's the hope of students in those schools? this is just witching hunting by fed. govt. due to ASUU strike.

No sire, I'm not confused by that. An engineer must at some point in his career transit to a manager. You cannot take away management from technology. An engineer must learn to plan, organise, schedule, control, order, delegate, and execute projects. That, my friend, is management.

Have you bothered to go through the Act establishing these universities before
concluding that they deviated from their core mandate.

Obviously, they must have deviated or they wouldn't have been asked to desist and it did mention about not sticking to their CORE mandate..

Its illegal for FG to do so, if the programs are contrary to the act establishing the universities then NUC is in a better position to stop these courses not an uninformed mallam who is the minister of education or the ministry of education.

ITK why didnt the.NUC stop these courses before or after those universities took it upon themselves to establish such programs when they fully know it is outside the laws by which the universities was founded and what made the NUC approved such programs for those universities also been fully aware that those courses are outside the competence of those universities

Project management is part of engineering, if you're an engineer or an enlightened fellow you would have known this, Information management technology as offered in Futo is core ICT, Maritime and transport management are also related to engineering.

Did you read the rubbish you wrote here before posting? If those courses were outside their mandate its strictly the duty of the appropriate regulatory body to stop these courses.
