South West leaders met in Lagos on Sunday to unfold plans for an upcoming Yoruba “Grand Rally on Restructuring”.
Addressing newsmen after the meeting, the chairman, Organising Committee for the Rally, Dr Kunle Olajide, said that the rally, scheduled to hold in Ibadan on Sept. 7, would be a one-agenda-congress on restructuring.
“This endeavour has to do with Nigeria and the aim is for a united Nigeria.
“The all-inclusive summit of the Yoruba people will have more than 100 Yoruba groups that will declare their stand on the need to restructure Nigeria.
“Yoruba leaders at home and abroad and organised groups, students, artisans, past and current elected public officials across the political spectrum will be converging in Ibadan to appraise the issue of restructuring and fashion out a workable way out of the quagmire the country is presently in,”he said.
.
The meeting, which held at the Protea Hotel, Ikeja, saw key leaders from the zone, such as Pa Reuben Afosoranti, Chief Ayo Adebanjo and Chief Amos Akingba in attendance.
Also at the meeting were Chief Supo Sonibare (Afenifere Chairman, Lagos), Mr Yinka Odumakin (Afenifere Spokesman), and Prof. Banji Akintoye, among many others.
Olajide said that although the south west governors and all Yoruba would be at the meeting, the gathering would be a non-political one.
According to him, Nigeria is drifting dangerously and there is need for those at the helm of affairs to listen to the yearnings of the people and do the needful to maintain unity and peace.
“We are meeting to take a crucial decision on Nigeria. We are going through a very difficult phase.
“So patriots have to rise up and find lasting solutions to the difficulties we are experiencing,”he added.
Olajide further said that legal luminary, Chief Afe Babalola, would chair and direct the rally.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the rally would be coming a few weeks after the Nigerian Senate voted against amending the 1999 constitution to accommodate restructuring that would devolve more powers to the states.
.
The group which made the declaration in Lagos on Thursday, July 27, sought the creation of Oduduwa Republic, Vanguard reports.
.
The spokesperson for the group, Opeoluwa Akinola, at a press conference held at Ogba said it was time for the Yoruba nation to exit Nigeria which he said was being dominated by the Fulani north.
In the video below, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo said Nigerians are greater together than apart.

Take it or leave it Nnamdi Kanu has changed the political space of Nigeria, a lot of things are going to be different hence forth, a lot of intrests have been awakened, this country really needs to be restructured in the overall interest of everybody but the powers that be don't want to hear that, they are so comfortable with the status quo, I think it is better to peacefully and amicably restructure Nigeria now so that every region can advance at its own pace and to diffuse this fast ticking time bomb because those that make peaceful change impossible makes violent change inevitable.

have said it before and I will say it again and again and again.

The Yorubas really need to get more aggressive like the Igbos in demanding for a restructured Nigeria. You do not get anything tangible speaking to media demanding A or B and expecting a listening ear for a stubborn people like the North.

The northerners have used their military prowess 2ru coup and counter coup to consolidate political and military advantage in Nigeria. quite unfortunate the country has refused to work.

If Yorubas understand what they have, they will not be longing for a united Nigeria. Insulting IPOB members is simply a display of Ignorance. How will Osinbanjos presidency benefit Yoruba's more than others. Cos I think this is y some of them are adamant on status quo. How did obasanjos presidency benefit them?. I think anybody beleiving in present situation is simply lacking confidence. Its dat confidence that drives IPOB movement.

The only way is for Igbos and Yorubas to sue for a break up. I bet you, the North will call for a round table discussion, their best bet will be a restructured Nigeria.

You cannot sell at a good bargain if you do not place your price high. Especially when trying to sell to an sturbon aroro customer.

Think about this. How else can Buhari prove that he has delivered nothing substantive on healthcare than for him to escape to London instead of getting teeatment from the hospitals he has spent billions on for the last 2 years? The hospital that Buhari trusted his life with in London wasn't built for the prime minister or for special dignitaries from a messed up 3rd world country. The hospital was built for mere citizens of the UK. Everyone in the UK can access the same quality of medical care that our President abandoned Nigeria to go enjoy. Yet none of the buffoons following him around could ask him why we can't have the same kinda hospitals in Nigeria. The best hospital that almighty Fashola or wonderful APC could show for 16years of rule in Lagos is LASUTH and it's one hopelessly substandard hospital by global standards. The question then is when will Nigerians start asking more from the politicians they idolize so much when the politicians themselves know that their best achievements in office ain't good enough for them?

Nigeria is doomed to remain underdeveloped when a govt cannot equip just one hospital well enough to treat the president and an educated governor declares public holiday to welcome back a sick President. When it's still absolutely normal for thousands of educated, illiterate, intelligent and dumb Nigerians to go welcome the president at the airport with joy and pride after 103 days of vote-of-no-confidence on the healthcare system of the country by the same president. You just wonder if people think at all. As for development sha, let's hope we get there in the next century cos with this kinda of thinking, there is simply no hope for Nigeria

If really Yorubas are smart and reasonable they will not only hop in the "restructuring wagon" but will harp on Odua Rupublic should Restructuring is resisted by these good for nothing, never-do-well greedy mallams. Restructuring will reveal many secrets that will shock Nigerians and the world.

After typing all these trash, you would still depend on hand-me-downs from your Yorùbá masters to put food on your table. An average potor trader can't make it in life unless he migrates to the SW. We put food on your tables so shut the fvck up, be humble and respect your masters.

Only restructuring can manage Nigeria out of her present and delicate crises, because information is now more open than ever before people now know who gets what and who gets that. Only restructuring birthed in true federalism can "unite us" and prevent a future break-up!
