There was no need for any war. But if Britain had said "we are one Britain"

By now, Britain would have been at war with its self.

Britain is a far more civilised country and uses referendum in situations where Nigerians use guns and bullets.

Britain even used referendum to leave the EU last year

Not the same at all. Britain comprises autonomous region of England, Wales, Scotland. They are autonomous regions. While UK is England Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. These autonomous regions have a choice to pull out of the union, which made those referendums possible. England cant stop Scotland from having a referendum because she has no constitutional powers to stop it according to their arrangement.

The Parallel to Nigeria would be if Wessex region of England which includes London and other major towns wants to pull out of England.
