Yobo, Yak dropped by Nigeria Posted: 2010-02-18 21:52 Everton's duo of Yakubu Ayegbeni and Joseph Yobo are expected to be left out of the Nigeria squad for the shaky March 3 friendly against Paraguay when the squad is named on Friday. Sources at the NFF told KickOffNigeria.com that the duo are among seven players from the African Nations Cup bronze medal-winning team who will not be part of the friendly game. Under-17 World Cup winning defender Kingsley Udoh is expected to be part of the squad in place of Yobo, while midfielder Rabiu Ibrahim is also expected to be in. Haruna Lukman, his midfield partner at junior level is not expected to be included in the squad despite strong and consistent performances with Monaco in the French Ligue 1. Skipper Kanu Nwankwo is expected to be named in the team, picked by James Peters, the NFF's Assistant Secretary General (Technical), and passed on to the Technical Committee, led by Taiwo Ogunjobi for approval. "I picked the team," Peters admitted to KickOffNigeria.com. "We wanted youthful players and we chose 16 players out of those who went to Angola because we also wanted some experience in the team." Some of the players from Angola who will be named in the squad include Osaze Odemwingie, Chinedu Obasi, Obafemi Martins, John Mikel Obi, Sani Kaita, Yusuf Ayila and Vincent Enyeama. The full list will be announced on Friday. |
