Omoluwabi Movement Propels Good Character Among Nigerian Youths by Davidlein(m): 4:49am On Aug 23, 2017
The race has started and opened to anyone who wishes to take possession. It’s high time the elders of our nation allow the youth to take full responsibilities of some political affairs so as to secure a better structure for the nation.

A socio-political group, Omoluwabi Movement of Africa has moved to restore the lost norms, values, and cultures of Yoruba land by enlightening the youths on the need to rise against the marginalisation of Yoruba nation in Nigeria.

The movement which is also culturally oriented is also aimed at empowering and supporting youths with leadership skills and who are ready to occupy political offices in the country by 2019 general elections irrespective of political affiliations.

The Convener of the movement, Amb. Abayomi Rotimi Mighty while addressing the assembly of youths in Akure during the first physical meeting of Omoluwabi Movement of Africa, Ondo chapter stressed the need for people that are of good character, competent, and have compassion for the masses to occupy elective positions in the nation.

Abayomi who doubles as the Executive Director of Women Trafficking and Child Labour Eradication Foundation in Nigeria emphasised the need for youths to change their orientation in politics and strive to let their voices be heard rather than serve as election tools for politicians.

According to him, the movement emerged as a result of pain, anguish, and anger that arose having discovered that the Yoruba do not have unified powerful leaders to look up to since the passage of the likes of Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

He noted that although the movement still believes in the wisdom of elders, it is therefore against those elders that do not respect youths by failing to listen to the language of youths in the country.

The United Nations Ambassador described true federalism as a panacea to Nigeria’s development while calling for restructuring, adding that every structure must benefit every culture, saying enough of one group feeding on others but for everyone to be duly represented.

The Convener who noted that the movement already has about 118million members, charged youths to struggle to build their capacity in terms of characters and competency, saying if Nigeria would thrive, there is a need for competent leaders to govern the nation.

He noted further that lack of intelligentsia in Yoruba land will speak against the ethnic group in future if care is not taking while lamenting the lack of respect for traditional stool by the governors, saying when the movement has its way this anomaly will be corrected and governors will consult traditional rulers before taking any decision.

A supporter of the movement, Otunba Yomi Odunowo noted that the future of the country depends on the youths, hence he supports the movement despite being an elderly person because he has seen that the movement embodies all qualities needed by a leader to govern well.

The Chairman of Omoluwabi movement of Africa Otunba Yomi Odunowo Empowerment Centre in Ogun state, however, lamented that the youths are mostly affected by the recession period the country is experiencing and it’s time for the youths to take cover so as to enable them for a grand take-over.

According to him, “the reason why the country is going down is because older people have refused to let go and I have decided to channel my time and energy to champion the course to encourage and mentor the youths.”

“The issue of money in politics is part o the law of power, they intentionally impoverished the youths so that they can induce them with money during the election.

The State Coordinator of the movement, Mr Adeniyi Olakunle who described the movement as a socio-cultural and political group noted that its mission is to raise dependable leaders in the society with good characters and with the spirit of altruism.

Nigeria is in a very difficult state and Omoluwabi as a movement has come out to tackle the challenges to set structures that will represent all culture to speak the minds of Nigerians.

The meeting which had as its theme “Manifestation of positive expectations through Omoluwabi” had in attendance students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Federal College of Agriculture Akure and other institutions of learning in the state and both employed and unemployed graduates across the state.
