Be an aspirational team lead- a magnetic manager!!!!!
Many old fashioned team leads use mundane approaches to inspiring, influencing, energizing and motivating team member to high performance such method includes kickbacks and pendulum-like carrot.
This from the point of view of members, is unargueably manipulative and most likely to boomerang in the near-term by producing a climate of mistrust, expressed dissatisfaction, confrontations, passive-aggressive and anti-organizational citizenship behaviours.
Being an aspirational team lead, on the other spectrum, is about being original, a model to follow by exhibiting positive cognitive, affective and attitudinal disposition, and produce impetus for proactive actions.
It is imperative for team leads and line managers to sharpen, hone and power- boost their management soft & hard skills towards creating a positive, happier and healthier work environment, keeping members/employee's completely psychologically and socially engaged and retaining high potential(HiPo) employees by re/designing work in a manner that makes work more meaningful and significantly enjoyable.
Requirements:
Disseminating a clear vision and exhibiting optimism and enthusiatic attitude about the vision with consistent positive energy. It is contagious! when members feel that energy, they want to be an active part. and identify with the vision.
Be unselfish- put the team first in everything you do, having in mind that when the team is better, every member grows and become more valuable.
Always promote team dynamism. An aspirational team lead supports the team, recognize and celebrate successes and praise individual members and the whole team.
Create an atmosphere of mutuality- mutual trust, mutual respect, mutual commitment etc
Be enthusiatic with indomitable attitude and disposition for success. This foster admiration/ respect from subordinates and colleagues. when they perceive a focused mindset towards team mission, it create a sense of security and keep them enthused while increasingly inspired to imitate/ imbibe same attitude that transcend pressure and destructive gossips.
Demonstrate emphathy and compassion. it is an inhere feature of emotional intelligence(E.I) and significant attribute of an aspirational team lead.
Outcomes:
Lower absenteeism and brain drain.
Less disengaged members and consistent high morale
Reduced error rate improved quality.
increased discretionary behaviour and heightened productivity.
