To boost the capacity of artisanal and small-scale miners to participate in the development of the solid minerals sector, the Federal Government on Tuesday launched N5 billion Nigerian Artisanal and Small-Scale Miners, Financing Support Fund to grant loans at single digit interest rates. This a pretty good policy. 5% interest loans when inflation is double that amount. Minors should register and take advantage of that and tax benefits in sector. I just wonder how well they will invest war chest in sector. 600 million dollars isn't small amount. |

igbodefender: That was policy is ongoing. They claim they don't want too maby for environmental reasons. It's only at a few strategic locations they will consider. |

Blue3k2: Oil spills have already done maximal environmetal and economic damage to the area. Legalizing only a few modular refineries is tantamount to stiffling the free enterprise needed to grow our economy. Let us borrow a leaf from the shale oil revolution in the US. The new enterprises that would emerge from mass legalization of mini refineries can be charged an 'Environmental tax' which would be used to offset any greenhouse gas emissions arizing from their activities. |
