It was in the year 1991 that something very important happened to me and my family at that time. I was a few years old then but I still had small sense.

Mummy had just finished her cooking, it was raining so heavily but the warmth of the Kitchen and the sweet smell of the onion frying on the pot stole the moment away as every one sang and smiled in wait for the jollof on the fire.

Its was about 7:45 PM when the rain changed its style as the sound of the drops became similar to that of footsteps on the thatched roof.

A few minutes passed, Jollof was ready, momma was glad, her kids, I and siblings were over joyed because for a few weeks, we haven't had such a wonderful smell let alone taste Jollof.

We moved into the main house where dinner was served and everyone ate to their full.

The night was wonderful, yes it was till we began to notice some water penetrate the walls and gradually into the house. It was a mud house you know, it had a thatch roof too and so Chima and I had to go about, placing little bowls to capture water drops as they found their way into the house from the roof.

As time passed, the Rate of penetration became higher, mummy went to the inner room to keep things but came out with her hands in her lips.

"The inner room is flooded already" she said with her hands on her head.

There is no place to run to, no one to run to, we were the poorest in the community at that time we were strangers also.

10 minutes later, I was under the rumbles as the entire building collapsed against us all.

Daddy made his way out only to come back with a few things he could pick out from the rumbles, mum picked I and Chima but fell to her knees when a piece of wood pierced her foot.

We were stranded. 2 hours back we had a roof over our head, we even ate Jollof, but now we are the Ines on top of the roof, we can't even quote the exact location if the pot of rice.

Our clothes weren't fancy, yet they covered us, but now we have no idea where to find them, the house wasn't that string, yet it provided us warmth, it sheltered us from the wild animals but then the rain came, the flood came and everything we had went with it

It was such a sad night, a dark night, one that I will never forget. Yet, this is what some of my fellow Nigerians are going through right now.

My brothers in #Benue are going through this right now and some are even dead. I heard a total of 110,000 persons have been displaced.

What else other than saying a heartfelt prayer for my Chi to come to the rescue of these innocent ones?

Yes! Let Us all #PrayForBenue for I know the man who is up above will surely make a way for them.

Please share with the HarahTag #PrayForBenue till it reaches he right people
