I could be dead now. No, you didn’t misread that. I could very easily have a ‘late’ sitting snuggling as a prefix before my name. While it was there all regal and in charge, people would talk about how young she was with her whole life yet to be lived and the plain pages awaiting the ink that would mark the hitherto future as present.

I’m not dead. But I could have been.

You see, about a week ago, I left home and embarked on a journey. There was an accident, one that occurred on the bridge and could very easily have resulted in us becoming specks of a rainbow at the bottom of the ocean. The accounts differ, but the most popular was the driver thought it was a good idea to accompany his lunch with alcohol. After the incident, he also disappeared into the wind while we were left individually to sort ourselves out on the side of the road, with bushes right behind us, confused and stunned.

But this isn’t about him.
