Im posting this topic in respone to the assertion made by one crazy fellow ( he knows himself).

Ten years ago when Nigeria announced it was kicking off its Space program i laughed. When Nigeria launched its first satellite iwas taken aback in suprise, but still sceptical. This just does not happen in Africa. When the Nigerian satelite launched by China de-orbited and fell crashed back into Earths atmosphere i exclaimed “eh he”. When Nigeria launched a replace satellite i was suprised but still sceptical. When Nigeria launched its 3rd sattelite into Space, i really began to think maybe we might have something. When Nigerian engineers buit from scratch its own satellites (NIGERIASAT-X) I was convinced this is the real deal, Nigeria is actually building Africa’s biggest Space program, the first of its kind in the Black race. The Nigerian Space Research &Development Agency (NASDRA)latest goal is to launch payload into Space from Nigerian launch site by 2025. While this may seem far fetched you just never know. Nigeria’s latest accomplishment in Space exploration just got a new boost.

In 2015 Nigeria made history in the global space technology market by becoming the first country in the Sub-Sahara Africa to manage the satellite of a European country for 15 years. This was no walk in the park. the bid for this billion dollar contract was a keenly contested exercise between Nigeria and other bidders with over 20 years of experience in satellite such as the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Russian Space Agency.

When asked by irate European reporters on the modalities on how an African country could pull off this feat, the spokes person for the Belorussian Space Agenct said Nigeria won the bid due to the high capacity of her ground facility at NigComSat base in Abuja, her human capacity resource, and the confidence reposed in NigComSat by the Chinese giant (CGWIC).

With this feat, Nigeria becomes the first African nation to compete against estavblished Space Powers international stage as a major player in space technology. With five satellites launched and four satelittes currently in orbit, Nigeria has more space based infrastructure in orbit than Algeria, Egypt, South Africa and the rest of the continent combined. We are witnessing the birth of a potential global player in Space on the long term.

you have more space infrastructures than electricity production infrastructures. Shame on you!

I hv been a keen follower of NASDRA and Nigeria Atomic Agency activities. Though I still have VERY STRONG reservation about these technologies, because

1. Administrative body language (for e.g, Buhari's govt has been somewhat inactive towards space programs, though trying in the atomic department)

2. Infrastructural requirements (power to that list)

3. Manpower (Nigeria trained engineers, mostly lack the technical capacity to handle these technologies. The first, problem in power privatisation then was manpower. It cost govt billions of naira to establish power training institutes despite the presence of technological institutions.

4. Lack if vision: Nigeria is known for always talking and never doing. We should not forget vision 2000. And now, the almost obsolete vision 2020.

Naaa shame in you for being such a simpleton. Left to you Nigeria must remain stagnant until we get electricity right. It will take us a hundred years to develop based your myopic way of thinking. I'm recent years you've enjoyed very fast internet services...lemme guess you think it's manna from heaven right? Do you know Nigerians have far better access to internet services than South Africa? Where do you think such services stem from? NITEL dial up derbies?

We have no space program

Niger SAT X was assembled using foreign technology by a bunch of supervised Nigerian engineers as part of their training as contained in the procurement of the SAT which included factory inspections and familiarisation.

The technology is the most advanced for civilian use but has been in existence and deployed for over 20yrs by the US military and CIA for sat reconnaissance in their low-orbital polar satellites.

Advancement in geostationary satellite power systems and de classification of the instrumentation saw Nigeria having this technology.

In short we got a good buy for our money.
