There's no riverine community in Niger delta that there are no army checkpoint, the koko be say the army are part of the illegal bunkering they give them their percentage. You see news like this when the bunkers refuse to settle or when their Oga at the top decide to visit, they raid to please him and make it seem they are not part of it.

Army and naval personnel are the latest oil thieves in the Niger delta, bunkering kings actually. They either own the refinery, control or collect bribe from the locals oil thieves.
If you follow this story closely, you will find out an argument or failure from either parties to meet up their end of the bargain.

My brother u r very correct. Kpofire bizness(illegal refining) is very lucrative in every waterside area in riverstate. Boys go to 'River' and spend a month refining crude, some come back with #500K each, serious burns or death as the case may be. These camps for illegal refining settle the soilders to allow them operate or they get taken out. The boats that transport the finished fuel, deisel and kerosene also settle while the police will wait at the docks to collect thier share from buyers who buy wholesale. There are actually camps on the high sea where crude oil pipeline have been broken and nozzles attached to sell crude oil directly to boats carrying hundreds of 200litre drums at outrageously low prices. These sites are owned by the big boys and are higly protected by the navy and soilders as long as they pay thier dues.

If you try to transfer any military man who is serving in these areas, then be ready to die cos they will go to any lenght to remain there.

If I talk people will quote me wrongly when people are talking about spillage I made mentioned that most of spillage caused by illegal bunkering. Now people are not comment to stop illegal bunkering but they will blame spillage on oil company and government. For the Soldiers nice one. We want clean environment for our aquatic life in Niger delta region, stop environmental pollution and water pollution.

The last time I visited a local community in the creek ran into some guys loading refined diesel into trucks with a army outpost less that a mile away. Most of the Army and Naval officers posted to the creeks are stinky rich from illegal bunkering.

Exactly, I'm glad you mentioned this. What most Nigerians don't know is the army are heavily involved in bunkery. Maybe this is a case of negotiations going wrong or a new army officer trying to make a statement to be taken serious. I bet you in 2 wee's time this particular camp will be up and running after the officer in charge has been settled. grin
