Power must return to North in 2011 –Elders [Or else?]

Some elders from the North on Tuesday warned that the region will not sacrifice the Presidency come 2011.

They insisted that power must be given back to the region to enable it complete its eight year tenure in compliance with the unwritten zoning arrangement entered into by the six geo-political zones in 1999.

Northern Elders Assembly (NEA), under the Chairmanship of Inuwa Wada, in a communiqué at the end of its meeting in Abuja, urged all political parties, especially, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to ensure that northerners are their presidential candidates for the 2011 elections, so that the desire of the region to govern for two consecutive terms will not be truncated.

The leaders were apparently reacting to insinuations that the transfer of powers to Acting President Goodluck Jonathan will rob the North of the opportunity of retaining power in 2011 as Jonathan might to seek election into the office of the President in 2011.

The NEA noted that it would amount to cheating, if the North was denied the Presidency come 2011 on the premise of the illness of President Umaru Yar’Adua.

Any attempt to deny the North its right, it said, can become counter-productive for the unity of the country as “the unity of the North and the oneness of the country are mutually reinforcing”.

In the communiqué signed on its behalf by its Secretary, Aminu Kani, NEA noted further that the furore generated by the call for Jonathan to be made the Acting President was uncalled for as it was only logical for him to step into the office in the absence of Yar’Adua who is away on medical vacation.

May thunder fire their mouth, when did they became aware of cheating? The North has ruled this country for more than 35 years of our 50 years independence. what benefit(s) has that brought to the country? zero

The PDP arrangement was used to cajoled the south before they agreed to allow OBJ to become President in 1999. Maybe the South West should have secceed after the death of MKO Abiola, and the nation called NIgeria will come to an end because BIafra will be gone within a twinkler of an eye once Oduduwa repulic is established.

The zoning arrangement is to continue to promote mediocrity especially from the North, and Yar A'clueless is a good example of such, what has the Sick leing President achieve in almost 3 years other than going to 'saudi Arabia on 'lesser hajj' or shall we say medical hajj.
