Hey everyone, I'm interested in learning about the dynamics of gender fluidity, queerness, and homosexuality in the precolonial African context (especially Igbo, if possible). If anyone knows of any useful books/papers/articles, please do share! Thanks! |

No information exists on pre-colonial homosexual practices among the Igbo, as far as I know. Research among the Hausa, the Fon of Benin, Uganda, Lesotho, and the Bantu of Central Africa, among others will prove more fruitful. 4 Likes |

Africa Gay said that In the Buganda Kingdom, part of modern-day Uganda, King Mwanga II In 1800s was openly gay and faced no hate from his subjects however it can be verified because he killed all Thoses that convert to Christianity in his kingdom therefore the Europeans that wrote the history might make him gay. Also they said that there are explicit” Bushman artwork that depicts men engaging in same-sex sexual activity however no one know whether there are encouraging or discouraging the art |
