On Monday, November 14, 2016, a law against land-grabbing became operative throughout the length and breadth of Ogun State. The punishment for violators of the law is between 25 years of imprisonment and death sentence.

Sometime in 2014, I got a distress call from a colleague about the activities of land-grabbers called omo ‘nile or ajagungbale in local parlance.

These gangsters wield dangerous weapons and demand obedience or capitulation from their victims. They operate like a mafia group. They are found in virtually every developing community or town where construction work is a defining feature.
Their leaders live big.

Sometimes they operate as rival groups, where there is a conflict of interest, but their ultimate goal is the same - fleece their victims. Sometimes there is mutual collaboration. What you observe from one community to another is only a variation in their degree of bestiality. Some of them come with documents, pasting them all over your new building or ongoing construction work, with the same authority you could only have expected from government officials. The usual claim is that the land belongs to their families and that you had paid to the wrong person or party. And for any resolution, you will have to repurchase the land. Any attempt to argue with them may leave you battered, maimed or butchered, in the worst scenario.
And once there is construction work going on, they or another gang still reserves the right to be “settled” so they could allow workmen to continue, else they seize all the tools in sight after some thorough beating.
The government of Ogun State has done all within its power to tame these monsters. And some of them, we must acknowledge, have been tamed. But the position of the state governor is not to condone illegality in any form. It does not matter their largely restricted locations, reduction in the degree of their violent conducts or numbers. Any form or degree of illegality must be tackled. This position of the governor is quite commendable and in line with the constitution. One is not really surprised because since assumption of office in 2011, Amosun has made security of life and welfare of residents top priorities.

Unfortunately, the activities of this Land grabbing had resumed back. people are still been terrorized in their land by this land grabbers.

One is going now at Oko-Omi, Iju-ebiye, Ota Ogun State. Several people that bought land here. The Land grabbers invaded people's Land asking people to pay Job card, Security and other bogus fee after people had paid for foundation. even if you agreed to pay for these fees, they will say you have to repurchase the land that they are not the one that sold the Land to you.

Recently, we are asked to pay #200, 000 each whether full plot or half a plot. cos they are not the one that sold the land. after that, you will now pay all the additional fees mentioned above.

We bought the Land from the surveyor who claim to be working for them ( Owoeye and co) which the company also agreed his was working for them.

plz we need government to come to our aid...some of the people had spent their life saving trying to build a place for their family.
he bragged that if he people refused to repurchase the land, he will bring tractors to demolish all that they had suffer to do on the land.

The boys are at the site in their numbers claiming they will not allow people to continue their project except they pay them. They claimed they working on the instructions of the boss Alh Mutairu Owoeye
