Edo Leaders Call For Referendum On Restructuring Formula by kelvinquincy(m): 10:59am On Sep 15, 2017 |
BENIN— Concerned Edo Leaders of Thought, CELT, comprising elders and leader in Edo State, has said the call for restructuring of the nation should be subjected to a referendum so Nigerians can decide what they want. The leaders, in a statement, yesterday, by their President, Col. Paul Ogbebor (retd.), who condemned the secession move by some Nigerians, urged the Federal Government to ensure the unity of the nation, adding that separation is not in the best interest of the nation. The statement by Ogbebor, and others, said 30 percent of the wealth of the country should be invested in research, while dedicating 40 percent to agriculture. He said: “80 percent of all projects design and execution should, by law, be executed by Nigerians to save the import of technology and work force and the export of our scarce foreign currency. “Nigerians were able to successfully execute Jos-Baro railway extension. 55 years later, they should be able to successfully execute all new railway lines and extensions instead of the current use of foreigners. … on agitations “The restive groups in Nigeria should sheathe their swords and toe the path of dialogue and peaceful co-existence within a united Nigeria. Suffice to say that any action that will lead to another civil war must be avoided at all costs. “We believe in the unity of Nigeria and, therefore, not in support of any idea of secession by any component part that makes up the country no matter how well intentioned by the agitators. The country stands to benefit. “We should call for a referendum in deciding the kind of restructuring we want. “So that at the end of the day, we will all agree on what brings us together and brings development to us.” |
