Description

Covenant University Bioinformatics Research (CUBRe), has an opening for a new position: a Scientific Manager (CUBRe SM), equivalent to a PostDoc.. This role is expected to work closely with the CUBRe Principal Investigator (PI)/Program Director (PD) to manage CUBRe projects including the newly NIH funded West African Sustainable Leadership and Innovation Training in Bioinformatics Research (WASLITBRe). The SM will be responsible to CUBRe PI/PD. The position is planned for Five years in the first instance, but this staff will be evaluated every six (6) months.

Key Duties
Research to provide solution framework to research problem as will directed by the CUBRe PI/PD
Representing CUBRe, responsible for all liaison with and management of its network of research contacts, collaborations, funding agencies etc.
Overseeing projects and providing feedback and guidance where necessary.
Managing scheduling of all projects, ensuring personnel are performing deliverables on-time.
Following-up with CUBRe staff to keep projects on schedule.
Managing project budgets.
Providing updates and maintaining open communication with the PI to monitor/update strategic objectives of CUBRe when necessary.
Preparing reports to funding agencies.
Preparing proposals for grant applications.

Qualifications
Doctorate Degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, related fields in Mathematics, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, or Engineering.
At least 2 years of PostDoc. experience is a must, with good track of publications in journals of significant impact factors.

Experience and knowledge may include:
Managed project teams/engineers/scientists.
Experienced in budgeting and budget control.
Background understanding of intellectual property.
Experienced in grant applications.

Soft skills include:
Good team player and communicator.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Able to multi-task and work well in a fast-paced environment.
Able to work independently without direct supervision.
