We anybody open his/her mouth wide and call men of God Evil, such person needs medical and or spiritual attention. I want to believe, everybody should mindful of what to say especially, what doesn't concern one lest one bring wrath upon oneself.

The Christian Association of Nigeria has strongly kicked against the floating of the SUKUK Islamic bond by the Federal Government.

It alleged that the move has further confirmed its fears that the government was planning to Islamise the country through the back door.

CAN, in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja by its General Secretary, Rev. Musa Asake, demanded the abrogation of the laws and framework behind the bond and threatened to seek legal redress if that was not done.

CAN said Nigeria was a secular state and the government was expected to be neutral on issues involving religion.

It said, “The Christian Association of Nigeria has been protesting against this aberration since the Osun State Government, under Governor Rafiu Aregbesola, embarked on this violation of the Constitution.

“Rather than stand in the defence of the constitution, it is disappointing to note that the Federal Government is pursuing what is an outright confirmation of an Islamisation agenda.

“The recent floating of Sukkuk Bond by the government is not only sectional but illegal and a violation of the Constitution. Every law that has been promulgated to back the Sukuk issuance and promote an Islamic banking system in Nigeria is ultra vires, illegal, null and void.”

“Therefore, the manipulations and scheming to smuggle the country into a full blown Islamic state should stop; these manipulations became apparent with the smuggling of Nigeria into the Organisation of Islamic Conference in 1986 by the Ibrahim Babangida military junta,” Asake said.

“The FG must dismantle all legal and institutional framework established to promote Islamic financing in Nigeria.

“We affirm that the territorial integrity of Nigeria is undermined through the issuance of Sukuk in the country. We hope that the government shall desist from its policies of unbridled religious sectionalism,” CAN said.

But the Federal Government in its reaction denied any plan to Islamicise country.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said the financial initiative was borne out of the need to include people who were opposed to interest-yielding enterprises.

He said, “Sukuk is not an attempt to Islamise Nigeria in any form. On the contrary, it is an attempt at financial inclusiveness. The difference between Sukuk Bond and other bonds is that if you invest in Sukkuk bond, you earn no interest.

“So, the scheme appeals to many people who don’t believe that money should gather interest. They, however, engage in profit sharing in the sense that if the government makes a profit from the bond, they give the investor a part of it but if the government makes no profit, the investor is not entitled to anything.”a

I had expected to see rationale points based on the Sukuk Bond but as expected, fellow Nigerians are bent on derailing the post with abuse and name-calling. In fact I will not be surprised if this becomes another ethnic battle between supposedly educated and reasonable Nigerians. No wonder the ruling politicians asserts that the youths are not ready to lead in Nigeria. Please before you comment on every post, why not let’s think about it and make reasonable comment rather than abusing one another.

Back to the topic: Sukuk
Sukuk represents undivided shares in the ownership of tangible assets relating to particular projects or special investment activity. A sukuk investor has a common share in the ownership of the assets linked to the investment although this does not represent a debt owed to the issuer of the bond. Therefore, Sukuk holders are ONLY entitled to a share in the revenues generated by the Sukuk assets.

FGN Sukuk Issue
In Nigeria, in view of the decline in oil revenue, the Federal Government in finding alternative sources of funding decided to issue a Sukuk to fund some major road projects across the country. Roads such as Ibadan-Ilorin Rd, Kolo-Otuoke-Bayelsa-Palm Rd, Enugu-P/Harcourt Rd, Kaduna Eastern By-Pass, Kano-Maiduguri Rd. and Loko-Oweto Bridge over River Benue has been earmark for funding with the Sukuk. Please note that ALL, irrespective of religion or tribe will use these roads. The roads will improve the infrastructure of the areas as well as improve the livelihood of the people along the corridor.

Sukuk around the world
Many African countries such as Kenya, South Africa, Sudan, Niger, Cote d’Ivoire, and Togo have all issued Sukuk and none of the countries has been Islamize because of the Sukuk.
The U.K. was one of the first Western countries to issue a Sukuk in 2014 and over more than $19bn had been raised through 30 issues of Sukuk bonds on the London Stock Exchange.
In 2006, Texas-based energy firm East Cameron issued a $165.67 million Sukuk through a Cayman Islands vehicle.
GE Capital, the finance arm of General Electric, tapped the market in 2009 with a $500 million Sukuk domiciled in Bermuda to fund a lease-based aviation deal.

I think our religious leaders need to learn and stop politicising everything that can benefit ALL of us.

CAN is just a ludicrous body of some intolerant and bigot people, they always cry foul and they are agent of backwardness. What is disheartening most is that they have beclouded senses of reasoning of others with their hatred of Islam. Anybody who is not religious bias knows that CAN is a cancer to Nigeria development.

COPIED

Most times I am amazed by the positions of CAN on national issues.

So Sukkuk Bond is a plot to islamize Nigeria, but when Jonathan took loan from OIC Islamic Bank, that was not Islamization of Nigeria?

Until CAN begin to say the truth about national issues, there will always be problems in the church and by extension the country.

Stop politicizing national issues. Instead, stand on Government to provide basic needs to her citizens. There are millions without jobs, food and shelter. When last did CAN spoke about it? When last did CAN hold a high power delegation meetings with government on why they have not fulfilled their electoral promises to the citizen?

A hungry person does not care where his or her food comes from. Seek to liberate the people from poverty before you talk about religion. This is the biblical truth!

Stop seeing every move of this government as Islamic oriented. Stop misleading the gullible followers.

Many of you cannot give up your bank accounts to feed the poor. Stop pretending that you care about their faith or religion more than their welfare and well-being.

CAN stop this hypocrisy!

The Plan of this Government and previous ones with Moslems incharge has always been to islamize the country. This evil plan can work if we as Christians do not get involved in Politics or power positions and just lay back as we are doing now. I have some questions,

1) Why is there Arabic on our Naira notes, when Goodluck removed it from the 100 naira note, this same moslem fanatics complained?

http://muslimrightsmuric..com.ng/2015/10/return-arabic-ajami-to-naira-notes.html

https://www.naij.com/330023-muslim-group-challenges-jonathan.html

2) Why does Nigeria have Arabic on the Logo of our Army?

3) Why is Nigeria a member of Organisation Of Islamic Countries, A body meant for only Muslim Nations?

4) Why does Nigeria participate in the Moslem Games, This event is solely meant for only Muslim Countries

5) Why was there a false story to Nigeria adapting Green as our Dominant colour, when we know to Muslims, Green is the main colour directed to be used, this is because its Mohammeds favourite colour. No wonder Most Islamic countries use Green (Check flags of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Bangladash etc)

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/explainer/2009/06/islamic_greenwashing.html

https://islamgreatreligion./tag/prophets-favorite-color/

6) Why can they have shariah, sukuh and several other things satisfying their Islam Faith, are they the only ones in the country.

As Christians we need to stand up and seek political positions, enough of playing second fiddle, if we calm down it would be in the presence of our kids or Grandchildren that this Nation would be Islamised.

As for Atheist, you think you are left out, read the story of Turkey, Iran, Syria etc, you would see these countries were initially Very christian dominated and most importantly very liberal, check them out now, trust me its only Christian Nations that support liberalism, you would be killed or punished for going against Islamic rules and most abide by Moslem faith in an Islamic Nation, so trust me it would affect you and your future children.

For liberal Muslims, it would also go against you, if you are a woman, you must wear the hijab, its compulsory, you also won't be permitted to drive a car and do a lot of several other things, you would be exposed to unnecessary abuse and persecutions, if you are a man you can't be free to act how you want.

Lets all think and stop this rubbish from coming to fruition.

This is the height of idiocy on the part of CAN.

I read through the article patiently hoping to see the part where CAN empirically shows how a purely finance based initiative will somehow turn out to be a tool for islamizing Nigeria. But as usual, all I saw was the usual sentimental nonsense that only appeals to the gullible and shallow minded Nigerian who is too lazy to research anything.

That's how they came the other time with the claim that the adoption of Islamic banking was a ploy to islamize Nigeria. Jaiz bank, established on Islamic banking principles, has been operating for some years now and being of great benefit to the economy. I don't think we are anywhere closer to becoming an Islamic country than we were before its establishment.

CAN and all of the other religious organisations should be cautioned against unduly heating up the polity
