Paris Saint-Germain and FC Bayern München both won impressively in the first round of games, and now have the opportunity to take control of Group B when they meet at the Parc des Princes.
• While Paris were equalling their biggest European away victory with a 5-0 success at Celtic FC , Bayern were easing past RSC Anderlecht 3-0 in Munich, although history suggests the German side could face a testing evening in France.
Previous meetings
• The teams have met in six previous matches –all in the UEFA Champions League group stage – and all but one of those contests were won by the home side.
• The most recent encounters came in the first group stage in 2000/01 – a season that culminated in Bayern winning the competition for the fourth time. Home substitute Laurent Leroy's 90th-minute strike gave Paris a 1-0 victory at the Parc des Princes on 26 September 2000 before Bayern turned the tables in Munich, goals from Hasan Salihamidžić (3) – now the club's sporting director – and substitute Paulo Sérgio (89) securing a 2-0 success.
• The line-ups in Paris were:
Paris: Letizi, Mendy, Rabesandratana, Déhu, Algerino, Luccin, Christian (Leroy 79), Benarbia (Ducrocq 69), Dalmat, Robert, Anelka.
Bayern: Kahn, Sagnol (Strunz 77), Andersson, Wiesinger (Santa Cruz 77), Linke, Tarnat, Fink, Sforza, Scholl, Salihamidžić, Jancker (Elber 83).
• In 1997/98 Bayern ran out 5-1 winners in the first game in Germany, Giovane Elber and Carsten Jancker each scoring twice and Thomas Helmer getting the other despite Marco Simone's consolation. Paris, however, were 3-1 victors back in France , their goals coming from Franck Gava (17), Florian Maurice (73) and Leroy again (75); Markus Babbel had levelled for Bayern.
• The French club also came out on top in 1994/95, George Weah and Daniel Bravo earning a 2-0 home win and Weah, again, claiming the only goal in Germany – the only away victory either team has managed in this fixture.
Match background
Paris
• Quarter-finalists in four successive seasons between 2013 and 2016, Paris were on the wrong end of the biggest comeback in UEFA Champions League history in last term's round of 16. Having won 4-0 at home to FC Barcelona , the French outfit succumbed 6-1 in the away leg to bow out – with Neymar, now of Paris, providing two Barça goals and an assist.
• Paris have lost just one of their last 43 European home games since crashing 4-2 to Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC in the 2006/07 UEFA Cup group stage (W27 D15) – going down 3-1 to Barcelona in the 2014/15 quarter-finals .
• They picked up five points at home in last season's group stage (W1 D2).
• Paris's last meeting with German opposition came in the 2013/14 round of 16, a 4-0 triumph at Bayer 04 Leverkusen setting up a
6-1 aggregate success . That extended the French side's record of never having lost at home to German visitors (W5 D1).
Bayern
• Bayern have not faced a French club since the 2012/13 group stage, when they beat LOSC Lille 1-0 away, Thomas Müller scoring from the penalty spot , and 6-1 at home with Arjen Robben on target.
• The Bundesliga team have won on their last three visits to France, where their overall record is W6 D3 L6. A 2-1 loss at FC Girondins de Bordeaux in the 2009/10 group stage is Bayern's sole reverse in their last eight trips (W5 D2).
• Bayern qualified for the group stage after winning their fifth straight Bundesliga title in 2016/17. The German side are aiming to reach the knockout rounds for the tenth season running.
• Carlo Ancelotti's men collected just three points on their travels in last year's group stage, winning at PSV Eindhoven but losing at Club Atlético de Madrid and FC Rostov.
• Bayern have won only two of their last eight European away games, losing four.
Coach and player links
• Ancelotti was Paris coach between 2011 and 2013, lifting the Ligue 1 title in 2012/13.
• Ancelotti also worked with Ángel Di María at Real Madrid CF in 2013/14, the pair winning the UEFA Champions League together.
• Unai Emery gave Juan Bernat his professional debut at Valencia CF in 2011/12.
• Bayern assistant coach Willy Sagnol picked up 58 caps for France and was Bordeaux boss between 2014 and 2016.
• Kingsley Coman joined the Paris academy aged nine and broke into the first team in 2013, moving on to Juventus in summer 2014 having made just four senior appearances.

Arjen Robben has warned big-spending Paris St Germain their money ``does not score goals'' ahead of their Champions League tie with Bayern Munich.
The new-look Parisians this summer made Neymar the world's most expensive player for a 222 million euro (£200.6million) fee, while on-loan strike partner Kylian Mbappe is expected to command around £166million if PSG take up their option to buy him outright from Monaco next year.
Those deals are a sign of PSG's intent to seriously contend for European football's biggest prize, a trophy Bayern have won on five occasions.
Robben scored in the final of the most recent one of those triumphs in 2013 and the Dutchman has reminded PSG that even with their riches, they still need to produce on the pitch.
``Paris have already spent a few more euros than we have, but money does not score goals,'' he told kicker. ``Quality on the pitch scores goals - good teams score goals.''
PSG crushed Celtic 5-0 in their opening Champions League group-stage encounter and Saturday's draw at Montpellier was the first time they failed to win all season.
Neymar was absent that night, though he is back in the squad for Wednesday night, and Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has pinpointed the danger of PSG's attacking triumvirate of Neymar, Mbappe and Edinson Cavani.
``We're respectful of PSG, especially their attack; they have three world-class players up front,'' Rummenigge admitted on Bayern's official website. ``However, we have more experience in the Champions League.''
By prising away one of Barcelona's top players in Neymar and landing another of the world's hottest young properties in Mbappe, PSG began this Champions League campaign among the favourites to go all the way.
Manager Unai Emery believes his team now deserve to be considered among the continent's elite, even if they have made themselves somewhat unpopular in elevating themselves to such a position.
``When I was in Spain, I watched Europe's big clubs like Real, Barcelona, Bayern, Juventus and Manchester (United), with all the best players in the world,'' Emery told a press conference.
``There are five or six teams that can buy the best players in the world. Our team has taken an important step towards competing with the best teams.
``Today, we have more enemies, because they see that we have a serious team and that our transfer activity put us a step closer to being in the mix to win the Champions League.
``It's not a demand, it's a process. That's why people are talking about us a lot more now. Right now people are talking about Paris St Germain because we are among the best teams in the world.''
