Super Eagles Midfielder Dispels Injury Fears Ahead Of WCQ Vs Algeria

Hapoel Beer Sheva midfielder John Ogu has dispelled concerns about his fitness, ahead of Nigeria's World Cup qualifier against Algeria on November 10.

The number 30 subbed out on the half-hour mark in Thursday night's Europa League clash between the Israeli champions and Steaua Bucharest after picking up an injury, but claims to have overcome the pain he felt.

Ogu felt pain in the quadriceps in the 23rd minute and played through the pain barrier for seven minutes before signalling to the bench that he should be substituted.

''Great spirit and fight tonight . Sad we lost but Trust to bounce back from tonight’s loss. I promise to be ready for Monday’s important game,'' said John Ogu via Twitter.

Hapoel Beer Sheva medics will continue to observe the Nigerian midfielder before giving him the all-clear to be involved in the vital league match with Maccabi Tel Aviv on Monday, October 23.
Ogu was on the bench for the World Cup qualifiers against Zambia, Algeria and Cameroon (2).

Nigeria: NFF Budgets 6.3 Billion for 2018

The General Assembly of the Nigeria football Federation has approved the sum of N6,382,500,310 as 2018 budget as proposed. The assembly also approved the financial statement for the year 2016.

Of the total budget of N6,382,500,310.00, the guaranteed revenues from sponsors and government subvention is expected to be N3,062,500,310.00, leaving a shortfall of the sum of N3,320,000,000.00. The federation has to work to augment the shortfall through sponsorships and special interventions.

The Congress also commended the NFF Executive Committee and Management for their prudence and accountability following positive comments and high recommendations from auditors, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, on the NFF financial statement for the year ended 31st December 2016.
It praised the patience and diligence of the Executive Committee and NFF secretariat in working assiduously with PWC over the past three years to eliminate areas of concern in financial records, and advised the Executive Committee to build on the positives.

Watford Isacc Success Out, Rohr Confirms New Players For Algeria Clash

Watford Isacc Success is not in the running to be considered for Nigeria’s upcoming World Cup 2018 Qualifiers against Algeria despite coach Gernot Rohr confirming he will try new players in the dead rubber tie.

Manager of Watford Marco Silva confirmed Success is out for the long term after the forward underwent surgery in Barcelona, despite the forward claiming he is few days away from returning back to training.

Rohr is a big admirer of the abilities of the 21 year old especially after his performance in a friendly game in London against Senegal, where he came on to good effect to help Nigeria draw 1-1 against the Teranga Lions.

The injury now means he won’t be among the new players coach Rohr will be trying against Cameroon, as the manager has once again confirmed his intentions to call new players.

Speaking during a television Sports programme monitored by Owngoalnigeria.com, Rohr said ” Of course we are not planning to lose the game against Algeria but we are already preparing for the World Cup.

“So you will see new faces in the team. We are planning to use some players who did not get the opportunity to play before now. We want to give them the opportunity to show us what they can offer”, he concluded.

Friday Eze, Paul Onuachu In Rohr’s List Of Strikers To Be Monitored Ahead World Cup

A source close to the coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has confirmed that two Nigerian strikers who are doing well for their European clubs are currently under the watch of the Franco-German coach.

Konyaspor of Turkey forward Friday Eze who has scored twice in his last three league games is listed among players who are under consideration by the coach of the Super Eagles, who is still in search of an out and out striker as back up to top striker Odion Ighalo.

24 year old Eze was voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in Serbia two years ago, when he finished as top scorer with modest side Mladost Lucani with 24 goals to his name, but surprisingly went to the Middle East where he played for UAE side Al-Qadisiya.

Another player high on the list of players pencilled down for monitoring is FC Midtjylland of Denmark forward Paul Onuachu following his fine form in front of goal for the past 18 months both in European and domestic games.

Onuachu is well on course to better his last season tally of 18 goals from 36 games with 7 goals to his name from just nine games played so far in the Danish league, and his form has caught the attention of the technical crew of the Super Eagles.

Arsenal Hero Keown On Why Chelsea Drew With Roma : They Missed Victor Moses

Martin Keown had weighed in with his opinion about Victor Moses who is out injured and was sorely missed by the Blues as they toiled to a draw against Roma in the UEFA Champions league.
The Arsenal legend had thoroughly enthused that the absence of Victor Moses had held back the London club going forward in that game.

Antonio Conte's men who had earlier looked to be cruising squandered a two goal lead and even had to chase the game at a point.

''I have plenty of admiration for Conte as having played in that system [3-4-3 formation] myself, I never thought it could work,” Keown told DailyMail.

''But against City and Roma the back three became a five. Chelsea were so effective last season because their wing backs stayed high to affect the game.

''Now, they are just defenders. They really missed Victor Moses (on Wednesday night).
''Chelsea showed character to draw level. But they were given a good examination by Roma."

Moses who had been a mainstay for Chelsea till his injury is expected to be out for a further four weeks though.
As such, he would play no part again in tomorrow's game against Watford at Stamford Bridge.

Madjer's Message To Super Eagles : You Will See The Real Face Of Algeria

New Algeria coach Rabah Madjer has sent a message to the Super Eagles ahead of his side's World Cup qualifier with the Russia-bound team on November 10.

The Porto legend has stressed that the Greens will defend the colours of Algeria despite their elimination from the 2018 World Cup qualifying race.

''We will defend the honor of Algeria in the next match against Nigeria. You will see the real face of the national team after the match against Nigeria,'' Madjer said at Thursday's press conference, according to Le Buteur.

''It's true that we are eliminated from the race at the World Cup, but we will play this match Nigeria with the aim of honoring the colors of Algeria.''

Questioned about the players he is planning to call up for the Nigeria match, Madjer answered : ''We will give you the list soon.
''We will meet in the coming days to decide, but what is certain is that we will not change anything. There will not be many changes. A radical change before this match will cost us a lot.''

Nigeria qualified for next summer's showpiece with a game to spare after beating Zambia 1-0 in Uyo on October 7.

(Photo) Key Nigeria Midfielder Resumes Full Training Three Weeks Before WCQ Vs Algeria

Eddy Onazi's injury worries are behind him, with the Trabzonspor midfielder resuming full training with the Turkish Super Lig outfit this week.

The former Golden Eaglets star had to be substituted after thirty minutes in Nigeria's 1-0 win over Zambia on October 7 after picking up a muscle injury.

Onazi has confirmed he has fully recovered from the ailment, posting on social media : ''I feel so good and blessed to be back sooner than expected. All thanks to the medical team. Next game on my mind. ''.

And the central midfielder has backed up the statement by posting a picture of himself and other Trabzonspor first-teamers training ahead of Saturday's trip to Yeni Malatyaspor.

This season, Onazi has been utilized in four matches by manager Ersun Yanal in the Turkish Super Lig.
If Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr decides, he will be called up for a dead-rubber World Cup qualifier against Algeria.

Isaac Success' Injury Is Long Term, Will Not Face Chelsea

Isaac Success won't make the short trip to Fulham for Watford's Premier League tie at Stamford Bridge against champions Chelsea as he is still recovering from a knee injury.

Manager of the Golden Boys, Marco Silva, does not expect the striker to return to action before the end of this month, saying the striker's injury is 'long-term'.

''It's the same situation as last week,'' Silva said at Thursday's press conference.

''Cathcart, Chalobah and Isaac [Success] are long-term. Kaboul and Sebastian [Prödl] are still out of the match.
''We expect them to work with the team the next week. Maybe not full training, but certainly with the team. It's too early to say with Chalobah.''

Success has yet to make a single appearance in the Premier League this term after eight rounds.

There won't be any Nigerian involvement at Stamford Bridge tomorrow, as Chelsea's Super Eagles star Victor Moses is still treating a hamstring injury.

Abdullahi Shehu Suspended For Two Games By Cyprus FA, Faces Fine

Super Eagles star Abdullahi Shehu has been suspended for two games by the Cyprus Football Association, the governing body for football in Cyprus, following his red card against Apollon last weekend.

And on top of that, the Cyprus FA may fine the Anorthosis Famagusta midfielder over his conduct, which led to his dismissal in the 36th minute in the First Division clash.

''Abdullahi Shehu has been banned for two games by the Cyprus Football Association, and we have to wait until Wednesday to see if he'll get an extra fine,'' a top source told allnigeriasoccer.com .

As a result of the ban, Shehu is technically ruled out of the upcoming games against Ethnikos Achna (October 21) and Paphos (October 25).

This season, the former Kano Pillars ace has been ever-present in Anorthosis Famagusta's starting line-up.

He was named Man of the Match in Nigeria's World Cup qualifier versus Zambia about two weeks ago.

Fifa Throw Out Zambia Protest Over World Cup Qualifier Vs Nigeria

Football governing body Fifa says it will not act on a complaint filed by the Football Association of Zambia about refereeing in their World Cup qualifier against Nigeria on October 7.

The Zambian Federation had protested to Fifa over the performance of Botswana referee Joshua Bondo, who disallowed a goal scored by Augustine Mulenga in the 1-0 loss against Nigeria.

Fifa emailed FAZ, stating that no proceedings will be opened because the referee's decision is final and there's no evidence that he was manipulated by the Nigerian Federation or betting companies.

''In this context, we refer your association to article 15 par 6, of the regulations of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, which clearly stipulates that no protests may be made about the referee’s decisions regarding facts connected with play. Such decisions are final and not subject to appeal,'' Deputy Secretary to Fifa's Disciplinary Committee Julien Deux stated in the letter to FAZ.

''Having said that, and for the sake of good order, we would like to emphasize that on the basis of the documentation and information currently in our possession, there is no evidence of any infringement of the applicable regulations by the referees of the match in question.''

Last month, Fifa had ordered a replay of the World Cup qualifier between South Africa and Senegal because of match-fixing by the referee Joseph Lamptey.

Liverpool Loanee Awoniyi Turning Heads In Belgium, On Target For Mouscron Again

On loan Liverpool forward Taiwo Awoniyi once again proved his goal scoring abilities by scoring the lone goal for his loan side Mouscron in their 1-2 loss to Standard Liege.

Awoniyi struck in the 49th minute to cancel out Sebastian Locigno own goal which put Standard Liege ahead in the 33rd minutes, but Orlando Sa restored Standard Liege lead with a goal 15 minutes from full time.

A late rally by Mouscron to draw level ended up with Standard Liege hitting them on a counter, which forced them to concede a penalty tucked home by Edmilson Junior on the dot of regulation time to kill off any potential chance of a late comeback by Mouscron.

Despite his team losing the tie, Awoniyi is finally delivering on the promise that made Liverpool sign him few years ago from Imperial Academy in Nigeria as the goal was his fourth League goal in 8 games, and more impressive his fourth goal in six games.

He is presently enjoying his most prolific season since Liverpool decided to send him out on loan in search of regular games. His other loan spell has ended with either the forward scoring one or two goals.

At German side FSV Frankurt he scored just once from 13 games, while last season he scored four goals for NEC Nijmegen in 21 games. This season his goal scoring streak has even led to talks of him being invited to the senior national team of Nigeria.

Chelsea Loanee Kenneth Omeruo Suffers Another Defeat With Kasimpasa

On loan Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo was once again on the losing side as his loan side Kasimpasa slumped to yet another loss, this time around 1-2 to Antalyaspor.

Omeruo was on for the entire duration of the game which they took an early lead, but later ended up with 10 men following the sending off of Jhon Murillo who got the goal for them due to two bookable offences.

Murillo was sent off few minutes after the restart which saw Africa soccer legend Samuel Eto’o drew Antalyaspor level before the break, and Deniz Kadah struck was ended as the winner 16 minutes to full time.

Since joining Kasimpasa for a second loan spell at the club, 24 year old Omeruo is yet to taste victory in the five games he has played for the team since his first game against Galatasary.

The Nigeria international is in his sixth loan spell away from Stamford Bridge as coach Antonio Conte still don’t have a spot for the defender in his squad for the season.

Leon Balogun Suffers Suspected Fractured Cheek Bone, Doubtful To Face Algeria

Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr is sweating on the fitness of Mainz central defender Leon Balogun less than ten days before he is expected to announce his final roster for 2017.

Balogun may not figure in the World Cup qualifier against the Algerians after suffering a serious injury in the 79th minute of Mainz's 2-0 loss to Schalke 04 at Veltins-Arena, Gelsenkirchen on Friday night.

Providing an update on the injury suffered by Balogun, Mainz tweeted immediately after the game :
'' Last year, @LeonBalogun wore a face mask vs. @s04_en. Today, he had to come off with a suspected cheek bone fracture. Get well soon, Leon!''

In October 2016, a hamstring complaint prevented Balogun from traveling to Africa for the World Cup qualifier versus Zambia, and he also withdrew from the squad that faced South Africa in June because of a thigh injury.

Prior to today's match with Schalke, he had been on the bench in the last three matches in the Bundesliga, against Hertha Berlin, Wolfsburg and Hamburg.
Nigeria have conceded just once in their last three World Cup qualifiers with Balogun and William Troost-Ekong partnering in central defense.

I don't visit or view the other thread any more. It has been ages ever since my final comment there. smiley So how is it a duplication?

If you are being entirely truthful, you will see the huge differences between this one and "the other thread". So you walking in here to make a comment just to water down the uniqueness of this little project is just lame. I actually never forced anyone here and this thread has a specific and dynamic direction and focus and with time more will be unveiled (I am almost always super engaged with work and studies yet I make out time for this little project) but of course I don't expect you to see that hence I'm not concerned about your so-called "frank disappointment".
I left "the subtle hypocrisy" found in "the other thread" so please feel free to stick to that and leave this one which gives you so much disappointment. Thank you.

P.S: This reply was just for the benefit of those who will read your lame remark. Nice Try Sir Tbaba1234 but this thread has come to stay wink

Super Eagles Defender Awaziem Scores Opener To Power Nantes To Ligue 1 Win

On loan FC Porto defender Chidozie Awaziem scored his second professional goal nodding home a corner kick in the 9th minute to power Nantes to a 2-1 win over Guingamp in the French Ligue 1.

Awaziem rose highest to nod home a well delivered corner kick by Leo Dubois , who also grabbed the assist for the second goal scored by Abdoulaye Toure four minutes from full time.

The 20 year old has been ever present for Nantes since making his debut for the team on the 6th of August against Lille, a game they lost 3-0.

He has proved his effectiveness in both ends of the pitch with an assist which earned him a team of the week nomination, with his performances also cementing his spot in the senior national team of Nigeria.

Scoring goals is not entirely new to the defensive midfielder turn defender with his first professional goal coming on the 2nd of February 2016, when he scored against Gil Vicente, aside that he has scored goals regularly for the B team of Porto.

Nigeria Watches On As FIFA Considers Updating Change Of Nationality Rules

World football governing body FIFA is currently mulling over some changes on the rule governing players eligibility for national teams, particularly the rule on switching from one nation to another.

According to Victor Montagliani, who is the head of FIFA’s stakeholders committee, the present rule on eligibility for national team contains some restrictions, which are mainly aimed at frustrating players from playing for teams they have no connection with.

He also said the present rule governing players who want to switch allegiance from one nation to another has provisions, which has stopped players from switching from one country to another with ease.

The Canadian, who is also the president of the North, Central America and Caribbean Federation ( CONCACAF) particularly mentioned Africa, Asia and his own region as continents battling with the issue of nationality switch for eligible footballers.

Nigeria have been very active in luring players with dual nationality to switch allegiance to the senior national team, and the proposed amendment of the rules could make things easier for them, but at the same time it could also tighten issues.

“There are nationality issues that pop up all over the world, in Africa, there are issues in Asia and CONCACAF, so it’s a good time to have a look at this and see if there are solutions, without hurting the integrity of the game.”

“There are so many issues that have popped up over the years because the world is changing, immigration is changing”, Montagliani concluded.

Despite the midweek sacking of manager Craig Shakespeare, the former League champions still went ahead to beat Swansea 2-1 away and Ndidi has shown his happiness over the result.

Reacting via his Twitter handle after the match, the Super Eagles star expresses his happiness as Leicester finally got their second league win of the season.

“Hey 3 points, it’s good to have you here. Hope to have you next time. Cheers!!!!” Ndidi tweeted after the match.

With the victory, Leicester moved up to 14th position in the Premier League table with nine points after nine games while Swansea City who paraded Ango-Nigerian striker Tammy Abraham maintain 15th position with eight points from same nine games.

TheSuperNerd:

My disappointment is not in the thread, i really don't care. It is in the fact that you appear to carry some level of resentment for others over online insults that came from one person.

I have no issues with you but you seem to have issues with everyone with your 'subtle hypocrisy' statement. At the end of the day, you alienate even those who empathize with the position that you have taken. You have taken your broad brush to paint a lot of people.

Yes, you are free to do whatever you want but i am also free to express my thoughts. It is a public forum after all.

I really can't see the difference between the threads. I read through both threads and i struggle to see what makes this different or unique. That is my honest opinion but since you claim to have more to come. I 'll love to see it.

Either ways, i wish you the best in your endeavors.

Whenever, you are in Baltimore, you can hola at me.

@Bolded... I should be glad that in a thread I call "family" on NL and rolled with for two years +, my mother was grossly insulted (and not like I cannot insult back but I won't stoop so low... I just won't. Moms are God's Gift to humanity) and not even a single of the so called elders or old thread associates thought it wise to call out such nonsense and shut it down (except for one who later did anyway, a lady for that matter. Where were the guys?).

But whenever I started to throw my own very annoying and teasing jabs at people who always wanna gain cheap attention by attacking TheSupernerd in all manners of ways both subtle and apparent, that is when the thread remembers to call just me to order. How beautifully "honorable". Believe me, I got sick of the nonsense Hypocrisy so I had to leave. And this thread was always in my heart from the beginning of the year but just never knew how I was gonna tell you all but somehow, that one action I witnessed on that thread made it so easy to decide. smiley

I have elucidated in full about this matter many pages back on this thread and wish not to dwell on this subject again Sir Tbaba1234. People will always believe just what they wanna believe anyway. A thread I called family turned their back on an insult never before given in our midst.... An insult on a member's mother. Like I said many pages ago, It was not even the insult that triggered this. It was simply the silence of the thread on the insult to one's mom. A line which no one has dared to cross.

@second bolded... I don't have issues with "everyone" on this subject. My issue is with "The Thread's" silent behavior towards vain nonsense. Everyone knows how I love to make that thread exciting and more inviting. I even played a hand in waking up "The silent crew" prior to Nigeria's game against Cameroun in Yaoundé.
They that do not belong to the "thread's subtle hypocrisy" comment of mine know themselves. But they that belong also know themselves. smiley Problem is each member cannot and will not speak up because all wanna remain neutral on the issue. It us understandable. So when I say "subtle hypocrisy", it is for those who have the receptors for that comment. For those who do not have, they have nothing to worry about. So I stand by my comment, in that one day of happenings, Subtle hypocrisy was detected and I didn't like the scent of it one bit.

And about uniqueness.... Maybe you know what you are looking for, but I know what I want this little project to look like from many facets/angles. I am not online all day sometimes but I do the best I can because I love the beautiful game as regards Nigerian football and her players, and background stories which form chains that would merge into a mega chain of events triggering another great rise of a golden era. It is only 29 pages old. Still a neonate to me. So I am happy with the constant and rising constant updates of whoscored stats, squawka analyses, news of relevance to Nigerian football and more. I am just one person and this is my only moniker on NL. This thread was borne out of passion and passion will make it grow.

And thanks. Wish you all the best yourself Sir Tbaba and like I told you before, when I do pop up ("again"wink in Baltimore, MD, I don't know Sir.... It is gonna be strictly business as usual. May never find the time within my short scheduled stay to make "house calls". But I appreciate the invitation. So thanks.
