According to M.F.K Fisher, "First we eat, then we do everything else" We complain about high exchange rates. We complain to the government about the high incidence of kidnappings, armed robbery and even corruption. But have we ever brought up the issue of the rapid declining rate of agriculture in our country? Every one of us seem to be engrossed about the state-of-the art technology, latest mobile phones and fashion styles but have we ever sat down to think about the future of Farmers who provide our daily meals? Nobody wants to get their hands on filth anymore and the increase in slay queens or slay mamas, whatever you call it, is quite dramatic. If nobody wants to join the existing Farmers, why not think of supporting and equipping them more? It's no news that most of the common foodstuffs we buy are now expensive than before. And some people will say it's because of the increase in dollar rate. Go to any market stall right now and ask the seller why his foodstuffs are so expensive. You will get the reply that dollar is high. I mean, what business does foreign money have to do with the local foods we produce? The cause of low food supplies is majorly the lack of funds and infrastructure to equip the farmers and the small labour force in the agricultural sector.
Now, since majority of the masses fancy those white collar jobs and fancy offices, let the government support and equip the existing ones with many infrastructures like goad roads, capital and so on to at least stabilize food supplies in the country. What do you think is the reason for the high incidence of kidnappings, armed robbery and many vices? There is definitely hunger in the land and unless the government does something about this hunger, nothing can be solved! Even the Benue flooding that devastated many farm lands, we’ve not seen any meaningful support to those affected. And we say there’s a working government! Do not forget that Benue is the food basket of the nation. If the food basket of the nation is not well supported, then what would you say about the remaining states? Or what if farmers go on an indefinite strike? Even the president would be hustling for food not to talk about the masses. Before oil discovery, remember our major foreign exchange was Agriculture and when we decided to shift to crude oil, the downfall of our economy began. It seems like the government do not know that oil caused the recession of our economy because if they knew, common sense would have told them to go back to Agriculture. Maybe it is true common sense is not common. However, if it’s so, then it’s up to us tell the government to Pay the Farmers or Face the Music!
It’s time to speak up. These farmers need our support. They need our voice.

Please share. #united4food #paythefarmers #bringbackagriculture
